Having recently moved from sorting office to delivery, I’ve not seen or been told exactly what my start times are other than ‘check the sheet for the next day’
Been told that although I’m on a 25 hour contract meaning it’s 5 hours a day, my start time and finish time is meant to align with the full time partner and is ‘guaranteed overtime’ for myself.

It’s been hinted at that if I only wanted to work 5 hours, I would no longer be in at 8am every day but probably closer to 9:30, would they be able to do that no problem?

Yes, they'd get a full timer to do the indoor work and you'd start at 9 or 9:30. (At least, that's what time part timers start in my office).

What if I do have a contract somewhere stating a start time? Would it state that?

As far as I know, contracts will only specify number of hours a week, and if you are lucky, their spread over the week, ie 5 hours a day.

If it did have start times, it would be subject to change due to operational needs, ie a managers whim.

All this suggesting and hinting is a load of crap. It is done so you feel you have to be flexible and start when the boss requires you to, and make their life easier.

It is very simple - whether you want overtime or not , your contracted hours have a start time and a finish time. You should be informed of these and should it suit you just work these.

Not in my experience - the job description I applied for stated specific start/finish times (and obviously number of hours) - contract just states number of hours.

Your finish time will be the same as your full time partner. Your start time should then be 5 hours before this each day unless you agree to do overtime beforehand.

The job description doesn't mean jack s**t, and in effect is just a hook to get you interested in the vacancy.

As long as you get notice they can change your hours, no point in starting a 4/5 hour walk on a five hour day before its ready to go out.

Office advertising for jobs ‘working between the hours 9:30 to 2:30’
But then at the office they say ‘start earlier on a Saturday’
Can they demand that?

The job advertisement isn't your contract.
