Manager scanning tracked parcels that are going to fail as 'inaccessible'

In a nearby office last week a DOM told the line manager to scan the parcels not taken out as inaccessible.
surely this is 'cooking the books' and they should be getting a serious bollocking if not fired? if it was one of us we would be gone.
They cant get them cleared on OT but instead of failing them they are 'cheating' the system, annoys me how they think its ok for them to break the rules to hit their bonus's
unfair on customers waiting in on stuff to get a text saying 'tried to delvier but couldnt' when they havent even left the office

who should be told or what should happen?

So they are being scanned as inaccessible in the delivery office so should be picked up on PDA`s?

In our DO they scanned them as retention - "to let the customer know they were being held at the DO"
Of course it is cooking the books. Of course we would get fired if we did it.

Is there an option on the PDA to list them as 'failed to attempt delivery'? If not, it's probably just local ways of flagging them as not gone out from the office. It may well have higher approval as a workaround (but goes to show how sloppy RM's pre-planning is - look how long it took to get a 'delivered to your neighbour' option).

they make such a big thing about 'first time delivery' and this is what they do...

and when the figures come out it will probably be the poor old posties fault and a meeting will be called and 'first time delivery' will be stressed again about how important this is, plus it will be stressed how crucial this is in the courier.

customers will also blame the postie when their parcel doesn't arrive.

It’s a bit like when, upon informing a manager that you won’t make a special before 1pm (like the PDA tells you to), the manager tells you to “just stick it on an epod card” so that they can fake the time on the fancy gun.

WE don't even scan retentions as retention. Saturday retentions are scanned as inaccessible. No idea why.

There is, it literally says ”Delivery not attempted"

But selecting that wouldn't do their bonuses much good

I'm sure that statement is true for RM but I'm sure the REGULATOR and especially the CUSTOMERS will care. They don't have to go with RM there is hundreds of couriers out their who can do it cheaper also. I think they actually want this as their going to make yous start much later and they will drop the specials as they are holding them back a bit.

Isn't it two sides of the same coin though? I'm not sure if 'Retention' is actually a service that RM offer anymore - posties just know
that a school/business is closed at the weekends so you can't access to deliver - hence 'Inacessible'. I've checked what comes up on the tracking
system before (sad!) when you scan an item as retention and (IIRC) it says 'Retained in accordance with your instructions'.
However in my short time with RM I've yet to see an official request/instruction from a school/business to 'retain' mail on Saturdays - so that's perhaps why
somebody has decided it's 'Inaccesible' rather than 'Retention'.

Retentions are very much things, I do a number of firms duties which have retention sheets. Each firm will be listed and if it's in green you deliver Saturday, if it's red you retain. That said, there's always firms who don't bother putting one in who are never there.

The scanning tracked inaccessable is something both management and posties have done in my experiance, certainly wrong but it happens. People I've worked with have even done the same to specials to save them failing.
