striking before christmas is a big "no no"

Post by wolfie citizen smith »

unfortunately this will be a big mistake to all our customers for whom we rely mostly don't forget and any work left over AFTER boxing day is in my book work left over and no longer part of christmas pressure, so then would be the ideal moment for long term 48 hour rolling strikes and not before...

I am a NO voter and I agree with you Woolfie - It would be a big strategic mistake to strike between the end of the ballot and Christmas. No problems about New Year though, more time to recover. :Very Happy

The time was, there was hardly any mail of any sort for days after Christmas. These days, there's no end of stuff from firms, holiday companies etc. It would be a good time to strike. Not as good as November, but enough to clog things up for weeks on end.

Cant see any point in striking after christmas,RM would'nt give a sh1te and just bring in their casual workforce which no doubt are on stand-by any how,i personally aint keen on going out the door on strike........but if we have to,it needs to be before Christmas and it needs to be official.Any unofficial IA would see RM go for the throat of the CWU by taking them to court and ripping our bank account to shreads.

I think we are doomed either way the vote goes,Hayes,Ward and the PEC who sit drinking tea/coffee and munching biscuits along wimbledon broadway should hang their heads in shame. This sham could break the CWU as we know it and it will not be through any fault of Royal Mail.

I 100% agree. Even if striking before christmas woudl cause RM a big headache it would put a lot of the public against us and because the public are emplyed by every single one of our customers it would be a very bad idea.

I also think that if we publically said we'd leave the strikes until after Christams (because we are the goodies) it woudl do our cause a lot of good.

Hit the January sales rubbish with non-delivery and the bigger customers may start complaining.

Christmas ,Easter ,Mothers day ,fathers day It does'nt matter ,it's not our choice and the media /pr machine wil always s**t on us, so might as well maximise our impact and explain our case.

Lets face it in national media terms we are always going to be unreasonable ,unacceptable lefty throwbacks who refuse to accept pay and condition cuts, ie modernisation

I really don't care what joe public thinks, if it's a no vote then we should start the strikes immediately over christmas. Lets put the pressure on RM management that they can't easily weasel out of.

Do you really think the public care one ounce about us?
Christmas is the one time of the year when Rm are very vulnerable.
A lot of their profits come from christmas and to me it is the ideal time to strike.
Rm and the public don't care that i have lost £8000 in lump sum payment.
Adam Crozier is alright, he has taken £140,000 in leiu of his pension.
No i am sorry now is the time to think about us!
However as much as i want a no vote, as a person who was around at the time of the way forward ballot, i can tell you now it will probally be a yes vote!
Remember most postman won't even bother reading the agreement, most see the £175 and will take it.
Never mind that one day postman will be doing d2d for nothing, taking out five hour deliveries, covering for s/l a/l for nothing and losing what little o/t they have.
Well they better not coming moaning when it happens!
Our senior officals by staging the ballot over such a long period will probally get the result they want and what postman who can't see further then their nose deserve.
While Alan Leighton and Adam Crozier are sitting at home enjoying their christmas we can all contemplate a year ahead where RM edge towards a reduction in wages by 25% and increased productivity of 40%
Getting rid of d2d and o/t will help see in both objectives!

:no no I underrstand what your saying comrade but unfortunatly we are not infallible and striking before christmas is one big mistake you mark my words.

Executive Action has been taken from Royal Mail at this present moment in time and Unit Reps are or should be reiterating to members the reasons why a "NO VOTE" is imperative.

Striking before christmas will not help our cause pulbicly and all respect will be lost, cunning is our key objective so as previously stated long term weekly 48 hour rolling strikes after boxing day would be our best move.
The ballot papers (all with the NO crossed hopefully) would have all been returned.....may i suggest special delivering them to insure your vote somehow does not get lost.
The PEC in that time should be or are aware of the majority rule and respect our demands that Billy Hayes, Dave Ward, Alan Leighton and Adam Crozier sit back down and renegotiate the deal, while this is happening we are on our 48 hour weekly rolling strikes, this my fraternal friend is my view. :wave

You're right there! :Applause Particularly if they started the 48 hour Strikes on a Monday, as that would avoid anyone being asked by the CWU to cross their own Picket Lines. :hmmmm
