For the first time, colleagues in Delivery can see how their office is performing against 10 key performance measures.

The information, which is displayed on the business screens located in delivery offices, shows a red/green status against each of the measures so that everyone can quickly and easily see how they’re performing.

Colleagues can then compare their office’s actual performance against its target performance by pressing the ‘+’ key on the keypad, connected to the screen. This supports performance discussion at weekly WTLL sessions by giving managers and teams the information they need to focus on making improvements in the right places.

The information is also supported by ‘top tips’ that give suggestions for actions our frontline people can take to improve results.

The screens display performance information on:
  • Complaints
    Special Delivery
    Doorstep scanning
    Final collections
    All accidents
    Road Traffic Collisions
    Productivity
    Unscheduled visits per vehicle
    First time delivery
    Gross hours
This addition represents a real step forward for our operation and supports the business focus on our key operational priorities.

The information is refreshed every Thursday and shows how each office performed the previous week.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Unscheduled visits to the workshop,
It's a big thing Royal Mail are trying to cut down on at the moment. The average is 6 per year down from 8 but they want it down further.

Unfortunately what this performance table system will cause is more conduct cases for members who damage vehicles and less reporting of faults therefore more dangerous vehicles on the road.

Royal Mail still doesn't get the fact that the more you shine a light on most of their managers the further into the dark they will crawl. The first thing a sensible business does is remove the dark places. Put in an independent team of vehicle auditors, stop warning managers when they're coming and talk to the staff independently about their experiences of driving and maintaining Royal Mail vehicles. Stop giving their managers the chance to move the problem onto us.

We already know how we are performing. We're all lazy.

My van seems to spend more time at the garage than with me. I think it was the garage visit before last when it returned with a mangled/broken bonnet catch and a serious water leak that the mechanics themselves did to the van!

One of the biggest reasons for unscheduled visits to the workshop in my experience is poorly carried out repairs or no attempt to resolve the problem at all because they couldn't find anything wrong in the first place. The reason for this is the PMT1 system which gives the workshop only the most basic of information to work with.

If you take your car into a garage you explain to the mechanic exactly what the symptoms are, most drivers have a working knowledge of how a vehicle should behave and what doesn't feel right. I know a couple of guys who work on fleet maintenance and they say that trying to find a fault from a PMT1 is like trying to play Operation with your eyes closed. Why don't we use our driver's knowledge and experience in a more productive and professional way?
