scanning when returning to office
Today we started scanning a barcode when you get back to the office after delivery.
DOM said it was to show you had finished scanning your postboxes on your round but me thinks its checking what time we return to the office
Any thoughts?

mmm we have to...since last week....
our reason test letters in post boxes were not received by the mail centre so someone wasn't putting the collection mail in the right place.
so we have the scan on return.....

The scan on return to the office is solely to see what time some are getting back to the office. Nothing more, nothing less. People were logging off their PDA’s before they got back so it wasn’t registering the times the finished.
Once you scan the collection barcode they know its been collected from, they cannot even get the reason for it right between the different areas. I’ve herad it to check you’ve scanned the boxes, its to check test letters, its to check you have put the letters in the bag. Why can’t they just be honest with us?

All duties in our office bar one have to scan when they come back. This is because they have
boxes to clear whilst out on delivery. The one duty that doesn't scan on return to office has zero boxes to clear.

It's is to confirm that you have disposed your collection to the office collating point.

Deltaforce is right. It’s simply a consolidation barcode to confirm you have put your mail from collection boxes in the bag. It’s been possible, and even done in my office for months and months. It’s only in the last week or so that it appears on your PDA though. Basically a prompt for the people who haven’t been bothering.

So why don’t the afternoon staff who empty all the other boxes have to scan anything?deltaforce wrote:It's is to confirm that you have disposed your collection to the office collating point.

Yep started it at ours today, does make you wonder, how many more ways they can track your progress,or lack of it maybe,am happy to do it,with the old pen and paper sighing in out and back sheet, the pda actuals data, and now this,I think we have enough evidence to confirm that you were actually late back and will require paying in the form of overtime! And it will confirm on sat that when I scan the barcode the mail will sit there in the bag and go nowhere as it’s 140 and the lorry goes at 12,brilliant!,,

There has been another OP on this subject previously. The new scanning office barcode is to confirm that the boxes due to be emptied while out on delivery have been completed. 'Number One' queried why the afternoon collections don't have to do it as well. There is a reason but I have forgotten it again. This new scanning barcode is not to do with the AHDC(Auto Hours Data Capture.). The AHDC will also likely be implemented eventually and will time every activity performed before we go out on delivery. By rights this should result in posties getting paid for all the work they do but I won't hold my breath on that one.robbertwhitton wrote:Yep started it at ours today, does make you wonder, how many more ways they can track your progress,or lack of it maybe,am happy to do it,with the old pen and paper sighing in out and back sheet, the pda actuals data, and now this,I think we have enough evidence to confirm that you were actually late back and will require paying in the form of overtime! Regarding mail collected on Saturdays I think it had always been the case that mail will be brought back to the DO after the mail has been collected by lorry or taken to the nearest collection point/MC. We were asked again recently if we could cut off and get the collected mail back to the office or a closer postbox before a set time. In my case with nine postboxes to empty on a Saturday this would add over twenty minutes to my duty time which I don't have and they won't pay me for so I will refuse to do so. So many aspects of this job are broken . Our DOM lives near the MC so they wait til everyone gets back on a Saturday then drops the last of the collected mail into the MC on the way back home. We had an incident with a letter with a chip in a while back and don't want to get caught out again.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Problem with this thory being around half the duties in our office don't have collections on them. If they want to know what time you're actually finishing they can just check the actuals, collection or no collection.number one wrote:The scan on return to the office is solely to see what time some are getting back to the office. Once you scan the collection barcode they know its been collected from, they cannot even get the reason for it right between the different areas. I’ve herad it to check you’ve scanned the boxes, its to check test letters, its to check you have put the letters in the bag. Why can’t they just be honest with us?

But if all the duties with a collection on them are showing as mostly getting back early they will presume most of the rounds without collections on them do also.postietom wrote:Problem with this thory being around half the duties in our office don't have collections on them. But they don't have to pressume anything, that's the point. They can just check the actuals.number one wrote:But if all the duties with a collection on them are showing as mostly getting back early they will presume most of the rounds without collections on them do also.postietom wrote:Problem with this thory being around half the duties in our office don't have collections on them. Not if you take the battery out before getting back to the officepostietom wrote:But they don't have to pressume anything, that's the point. Then they'll know the pda went offline somewhere it shouldn't have.
