In our unit we have a practice of A/L being refused(due to staffing levels) and unpaid leave being granted for the same day people wish to book off.

Are other units experiencing this?? : :confused :confused :confused

What are the thoughts to this practice?? :Boo hoo! :Boo hoo!

It contradicts itself and should be investigated by your union :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

The days are either available or not. You are entitled to A/L and as such should be able to take it depending on the old RM " operationally possible " get out clause. So if you can't take A/L because it's not operationally possible , then it shouldn't be possible to have the day off without pay. :d'oh!

Your dom is a test and taking the c***. Yet again just when I think I have seen it all with this mob then a post like this. If I was in doms office and he told me I can't get paid but can take unpaid i would knock the count out because he is protecting his bonus against my basic. Twat. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

I'd love to be able to get a week unpaid. I pay for an extra 4 days anyway, which to all intents and purposes is the same.

If the ceiling is reached on AL allocation or office budget then by taking it without pay allows the Dom to pay someone else I would of thought?
They are not going to pay 2 OPG if the budget dictates, too scared don't you know.

In general I think Annual Leave should be used before unpaid leave. A days unpaid leave is not really any different from purchasing annual leave except it isn't regulated or limited.
