Jury service

Hi been called up for jury service and maximum you can claim for loss of earnings is £65 which will put me out of pocket if Royal Mail don’t put up the difference.Anybody know the correct procedure of what should happen? Thanks

Just done this myself. I did 9 days service got £673 paid into my bank have got to pay royal mail £433 back over 4 weeks. They pay (loan) you your average pay from the previous 13 weeks including allowances and overtime. Although you only get basic weeks pay. I made about £240 over the 2 weeks. It's a great experience if you get picked to serve. I did 3 cases and it was great, but time will drag if you don't get picked. Take your own food you get £5.81 a day allowance which is payed when they pay your money ( I had to wait 8 days for mine). And get the bus they refund that aswell

This is confusing. I’ve just been called up for jury service. I am on a part time 25 hour contract but work about 50 hours a week, obviously 25 of this is overtime. Gave my manaager my jury service allowance/claim form & he gave me it back & said Royal Mail will just pay me my 25 hour contracted hours for the 2 weeks & i have no need to make a claim?! The posts above say things about RM giving you a loan that you then pay back?! Now i don’t know what’s right or wrong. Can anyone shed anymore light on what i should do/believe please??!!

Do not forget to claim subsistence allowance also. From the minute that you leave your house until you get back. It's paid after a certain time, roughly 8.5 hrs in total. This is paid over and above bus/train/,taxi fares and the meal allowance of £5.62 (depending on area). I was on jury service twice during my RM time and came out ahead money wise but it was really interesting. Saying that, the high court in Glasgow doesn't do boring cases, lol.

Sorry I ment to say, you will be quids in it that's your doms attitude. Let them pay you the 25 hrs per week, fill out your claim form, from the court, get the manager to countersign it and your laughing. Not only do you claim basic but you claim overtime that you have regularly been doing, from the court also and no Saturdays for two weeks. Hopefully you get a financial fraud that lasts for months, with EVERY weekend off, lol,...

Hi this is well confusing started jury servise in a few weeks. do i send the blank certifcate of loss of earnings to royal mail jury servise to fill out and send back to me and then hand into court.

my manger not to sure what to do.

dont wont to lose out if royal is only giving me a loan to cover wages.

Yes send it to jury service team and they return it to you, then hand into court

You can claim for overtime if you regularly do it and the courts will pay the average of the last twelve weeks. RM just pay your contracted hours. Remember to claim bus fare, milage plus parking costs, expenses for meals ect. You get a daily :DISTURBANCE: payment of about £6.50 for coincidentals on top. Take your last 12 payslips to the court clerk. It should tell you all this in the letter with the summons for jury service or the guff you get once your at court. Also claim for childcare also if appropriate. It can be quite a good little break from slogging the streets and interesting, especially if like me you get the high court in Glasgow, lol.
