Annual Leave Advice

Post by Mezza »

It took me the best part of 3 years to finally prove previous employment with RM in order to finally get my annual leave entitlement adjusted last year.
I've been with RM 14 years, but also had about 3.5 years previous.

I chased my DOM for months afterwards to get my new entitlement to show on my existing holiday sheet, in order to be able to try and book it. He dragged his heals and basically did nothing as he didn't know what to do and made no effort to find out.
We got a line manager who was very good with the holiday system and they were going to look into sorting it out. But they were moved to another office, so it never happened.

I rang HR a couple of months ago as i wanted to know if there were any days to carry over to this year as a result of the adjustment.
I finally found out today that last year i was entitled to 202.8 hrs, so 5.2 weeks and an increase on what i would normally have for 13 years service.
This year they say i have 255.73 hrs entitlement, so 6.5 weeks, which means there were days carried over from last year.

Can anyone help with the following:
1/ Am i allowed to take 6.5 weeks leave in one year ( i thought 6 weeks was the max) and if not what happens with the other 5 days, are they simply going to have to carry them over to next year?

2/ I now need to get my DOM to finally get my holiday sheet to show this entitlement, so that i can try and book it.
He is certain to ignore this and it will drag on. Our current line manager is new to the position so will have as much knowledge as my DOM. What can i do about his reluctance to sort this out?

Sorry for the long post, any advice much appreciated.

1) To me 6.5 weeks leave is 6 weeks and 2.5 days so figure out exactly what leave you have first. Are you in the union? If so contact local rep for help, I'd be surprised if there was enough slots available for you to take the full 6 weeks now, maybe the crap weeks nobody wants so you may have to carry something over. You have to be persistant with your DOM about this as they will let it drag out.

You can carry over up to one week into the following year.
