Safe place

In the 2 years since I retired has Royal Mail policy on Safe Place changed ?

I've filled in a special instruction card and leave note on the front door asking for a parcel to be left in the shed my items are still red carded even when a signature isn't needed.

Safe place is supposed to be secure , so if anyone can get into your shed its not safe. However if you had a padlock that could be fastened after the parcel has been left I would class it as OK.

Daft really, if it's a tracked item it can be left as long as the instruction is on the box; if it's not tracked it can't be left.

Postie has the final say, if the safeplace ain't safe DONT leave it, no matter the instruction.

shed isnt secure, unless maybe you put an open padlock than the postie can lock back up.

Once you leave a note anyone can read it and wait for your packet, just give your instruction to the person who is sending the item it can be then left in your choice of safe place we will take a picture of it being in the safe place.

If there is a note outside the property it may not be from the owner. Anyone could have put it there and be ready to take it from the “safe place”. Always at the posties discretion for safe place.

RM official policy on that situation would be for the postie to 739 the item and take it back to the DO if you were not in or try a neighbour/s. As you probably know there isn't enough duty time to complete the job now so a lot of posties will not try neighbours. If anything goes wrong it is on the Postie's head so if your postie is worried about that you will get a 739.
Best advice would be for you to catch your regular duty postie if you have that and ask them if they can leave parcels in your shed for you. It is their choice to help you out with this as their job is on the line.

PS There is also the new thing with tracked items where an instruction is given on the parcel for the customers chosen safe place. Unfortunately for you even with this service RM have placed all responsibility for anything going awry on the postie. We have to use the PDA to take a photo of the parcel in the official safe place. But if the postie decides that the safe place isn't safe enough they can choose a different option on the PDA and leave a 739. Trust is in short supply nowadays with the blame culture.

Only if it's sent tracked and has an official tracked safe place on the label. That's the only time we're meant to leave a packet and take a photo. Of course, being royal mail, other offices may be telling their posties another story entirely.

The PDA will not let you leave in a safe place if the packet is not allowed to be.

They can complain as much as they like but I always tell them I am not Amazon or Hermes

1st knock count 1-2-3-4-5 2nd knock writing 739 out (even if I see or hear movement) 739-ed - No neighbours - No safe place - ignore any notes - take it back that's how you keep your job & not made out to be a thief - Not in goes back - End of.

So any light fingered passer by who sees Your note can then go to the shed and help themselves lol
