It is not for the area reps to challenge. It is down to unit reps to challenge through the weekly resource meetings. They should be reviewing the data on a weekly basis but be careful what you wish for.

That's exactly what will happen when they realise that they can't make runners take more because they just slow down and that they've got loads of rounds they can't cover when they stop people ghosting up and down the country. Their only option to get the work done will be to fill all the vacancies and then have to pay people when they are on sick or holiday instead of just paying someone to rush round and get it done on overtime

What if the unit rep challenges it and it is shown as most of the office is finishing early. Do you really want the union responsible for losing hours and jobs out of the unit?

My understanding is that the union are telling us that there are teams of people above the head of your dom and area manager capturing and analysing the data. They are adding this to the results of the various trials. From this they will accurately determin the amount of resource that is needed in each office.
Of course it may take a while to remove time from over resourced offices such as yours but the union is saying that they will. The union is saying that you should come in at your correct start time do the work you are paid for in the correct way and take your breaks. This will demonstarte the true resource needed and put them in the best position defend the hours in each office. Of course as individuals if you are doing less work than you are being paid for then good luck to you but your union is telling you that although you are enjoying your time in the sun, the storms are ahead. Just for my interest what happens in your office at christmas? Do you just take the extra work and finish on time? What do you think will happen in the future?

I think the most important thing for any reps is to tell it's members on how important thus data capture is for everybody. This will not only affect walks being balanced out properly which should be done within the agreement. But also finding out how much work (hours) are needed in the office.

This might sound crazy but if everybody did the job properly as the union have been banging on for ages then maybe some part timers could get made up to full time. But for this to work everybody in the unit has to work together to make that happen. Unfortunately some selfish people will only think about themselves which in turn ruins the job.

Problem is thus: those who do have scope for more work have simply began to start managing their times, which was obviously always going to happen. Our office has now caught up with most others, job and finish has gone. There were loads of people who always finished long before their contracted hours who have suddenly started to appear back just on time every single day. Some people are getting around it currently by ghosting but we're simply that short staffed at the minute due to long term sickness and a number of newbies jacking it that a blind eye is being turned as long as they are returning at their correct finish time, but that will soon disappear when were back up to speed in terms of numbers.

It may cost them to put more hours into offices, however if ppl do the job properly perhaps they could save money on things like accidents, sickness, mistakes, etc. :hmmmm

Here’s an interesting one.

Office is making tons of time by rushing and cutting corners. Makin’ hay whilst the sun shinin’ n’ all that.

Don’t worry. They’re sure it won’t come back to bite them.

When the gaffer gets tasked with using his recently reduced budget, the posties just fall back on work to time. Not their problem.

Issues?

I’m not advocating this approach; just looking for conversation.

I get the impression that the PDA data is only investigated when there are problems in a DO such as when posties go sick and whole or part walks do not get delivered. At that point they start scrutinising the data and if some posties are coming back early will ask the DOM why those posties are not going back out to deliver more mail.
I think we need to take a long term view on the PDA data and the AHDC when that is implemented as well. We need to view the PDA like one of those watches that record steps walked and get the full distance up to every letterbox recorded into the system data. What RM have currently as regards how long walks are will not have that amount of detail and is totally inaccurate. Once the delivery method trials are over, and if RM manage to get D2D items pre-bundled into sets for each delivery point, then they are going to want more hours from us and will demand a nationwide reworking of all walks and full resigns yet again. This is the worst case scenario of course but RM have a full history of making the job less enjoyable and
more difficult whenever they make changes. We need the PDA data to be fully accurate and then by rights at that point walks can be made to fit the duty hours we are paid. That should result in more walks being made in DO and a turnaround in resourcing structure and an end to skeleton staff & cost-cutting policies that don't work. Crossing my fingers here.

they are only using data from pdas in our office to scrutinise times being taken by posties on delivery ie, you wre finished 10 min early you could have taken more lapsing
i questioned this and told mgmt they are breaking terms of agreement by using pda data to manage people
what officially can they use data for ???
As we are seeking to go down ir framework on this one

PDA actuals should only be about the duty. As soon as the manager starts to talk about performance of individual OPG's it's end of conversation. Just the same as Trimble in the vans.
The PDA actuals should be used to identify issues with duties, why they go over, where the work could be placed etc.Rep's should be reviewing all the PDA info in their weekly resource meetings and that means all of it not just what the DOM wants to review. It can also be used for proof of delivery. We should not be afraid of PDA actuals but we need to make sure the information is used correctly and within the national agreement. If a DOM uses the info outside of the national agreement put it straight into the IR framework.

This is simple. It’s would be the OPGs fault. Not the unit rep.
