13th July is a non service day in Northern Ireland but this year the managers agreed with cwu regional reps to send us out on delivery WHY?
Should we not off had a vote on this or do we just get told what to do now?
Does anyone know what is happening now for next year or in future years?
Has the union just agreed to make our t's & c's worse?

I personally think that after what happened this year the precidence has already been set. I don't think staff in N.I. will have a choice as to weather they work on the 13th of July or not as the decision to remove this non service day seem's to have already been made without any consultation with the cwu membership. I feel this was a very poor decision from the cwu hierarchy.

Our office said they needed 30 volunteers to prep and do parcels only, union said deliverys were not allowed according to national agreement apart from Derry/Londonderry area who have their own agreement. When they didn't get 30 , they threatened to pick names out of hat or bring the whole office in. Eventually they got newbies and certain favourites in with bribes.
They then give all part time staff (those who refused to work) the Friday as their day off and refused to pay it as a holiday out of holiday entitlement.
I was driving through Belfast that day and seen a few out delivering and wondered what was going on. Think the union need to explain themselves.

I already put a post on this and emailed the union which I am still waiting to hear back from. But to cut a long story short this is a holiday that wee have had for well over 50 years which has slowly been chipped away (used to get double time for this back in the day) and this year was the final chip to get rid of this holiday by royal mail and the sad thing is the cwu helped them do it. Won't be long till the other 14 local holidays go to. I'll be leaving the cwu because of this

Shocking how’s it been handled . The cwu (and I have been a strong supporter of the union) seems to be taking it’s members for granted and failing them in so many situations.
Did the staff get any consultation on it mate or how did it come about that use had to work ?

They handled it by telling one division around 25 people the day before, yes the day before the 13th that they would be working no consultation with any other staff just the Dom. I don't think it's the cwuhero22 wrote:Shocking how’s it been handled . as the people high up don't know about it, but it's definitely the reps in northern Ireland who are only interested in looking after themselves. What's happened here is a green light to lose local holidays with the help of the cwu. Won't be long till they start doing the same on bank holidays

The same reps have been in unapposed for far too long
It’s always the same story ,run against them or get them out .but when they and their cronies hold nearly every position and barriers are put in the way of others getting these positions ,that’s not gonna happen .
Maybe they could explain why they didn’t put any kind of fight up for the thirteenth?
They did hold a meeting one time to change good Friday off ,to Easter tues .any news on that ? I wouldn’t think so ,it was just a way of getting the numbers up
In that agm so they could propose other higher positions for themselves .which they got
I’m a Cwu supporter ,but unfortunately if this debacle that’s rumbled on for years isn’t sorted ,they will be losing a lot more members ,as members are totally disillusioned here
