Strong offices vs Weak offices

Post by number one »

I sometimes can’t believe what I read about some offices where staff are not allowed to book extended delivery, told they must complete, get sent out to do extra work and so on. I work in a strong office where the staff will not be walked all over by any manager or area manager. The staff at my office run the place and we will not be taken as mugs. We never have a proplem with pay, overtime, extended delivery. We are never “forced” to do anything.

Why are so many offices weak and let staff be walked all over??

While you are right in a sense, that's like saying 'the people just need to vote in a decent government'. True, but not really immediately helpful

Alot of the so called weak offices have no rep in them or the rep is very bad. Its down to the CWU at national level to get the Branches to get a proper handle on this. If necessary the Branch reps help the Area Delivery Rep to provide the service the CWU expects or they will lose members

Easy to say,you do get worn down by a manager who’s point scoring and keen to please his boss and look good at our expence, not sure how you define weak or strong apart from as you say not to be walked on ,we regularly argue the toss on lapsing loaning overtime finishing times, and many other day to day issues, but as he runs two offices we rare see much of him,I guess we are a soft touch with not much clout,no union rep,and as I have said many times too efficient for our own good, but that’s how we work

Mines a weak office sad but true .
Managers have split the office with there pets and Runners.
Some staff members old timers and some new members stand there ground.
A would say asswell our managers are bully asswell pray on weaker member's don't like using that word so please forgive me.
Yip definitely if all member's did stand up would be great place to work and run out bad management.
Plus union guy only innit for himself.
No resource meeting with managers for years and proud to admit it.

Number one, that's what I like to see a well organised workforce that take no s**t. Not talking about being a communist or anything but these days you'd need to stay strong together or management will walk all over you. It's the same in most places but RM seem to be really bad just now, especially in delivery with walking over posties RIGHTS and terms and conditions. That's partly why I posted about celgar not being able to claim docket. They need to get rid of the managers bonus as this is where the biggest problem is and also the union need to get rid of poxy LOCAL AGREEMENTS and get back to EVERY OFFICE getting back on the same page and the thing is that productivity would probably go up. :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

Oh for the days when my office was strong...now we have a week union rep, who rolls over at the drop of a hat.
AND before you all say get rid of the rep, we've got a new deputy rep who said he was going to get rid of him as soon as he knew enough about the job.
Well guess what, he's as bad as the main rep, now he knows enough

A weak office is a weakness in the union and therefore a danger to us all, rather than gloating a strong office should be asking questions of their relevant area reps and divisional reps why these offices are being allowed to be rolled over and placing the entire collective solidarity of the union at risk.

Or we can continue to point and laugh until we're the last unit standing and Royal Mail are doing the laughing.

I suppose management see a strong office as one where staff always takes their lapsing and has people more than willing to do overtime plus a Unit rep that is always on their side. Staff see a strong office where there is a strong Union presence, where people stick together to say "NO" to lapsing and rally round to support their comrades instead of themselves.

Problem is not all sections in an office are on the same wavelength, never mind the office as a whole.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
