No, however it can be taken as your day off, unpaid or annual leave.

For an Aunt yes you are allowed one day with pay, this is from Special Leave Guidance

BEREAVEMENT
If arranging a funeral up to one week with pay, which includes the bereavement, arranging the funeral and any other duties (This is for arranging funerals of next of kin or as an executor).

For the death of next of kin and blood relative, (spouse, civil partner, long standing unmarried relationship, child, parent, sibling) up to one week with pay (No additional week is allowed if the person is arranging the funeral).

For a more distant relative e.g. parent in law, grandparent, aunt, uncle- one day with pay.

Discretion for additional time off in exceptional circumstances where care of a dependant is involved, however where prolonged time off is required this might be without pay or from holiday entitlement.

A year ago my uncle died I was responsible for all the funeral arrangements but I wasn’t allowed a day off with pay I had to use lieu day

I have got my members pay for Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles when the DOM has said no
just print this off and show him.

It only says grandparent or parent in law is entitled to one day

it says "eg" as in for example. It says parent in-law also, well you would be closer to your Aunties and Uncles

I had this in my Office and i had some resistance but in the end he got advice from HR and was told yes they are entitled
as said it is a guide so can be expanded to cover your family.

So can somebody clarify how long you get for aunts and uncles please. Is it just the funeral day or are we entitled to longer.

To attend the funeral normally 1 day,

If acting as the executor, or arranging the funeral 1 week.

However, this is not an entitlement, it is down to the manager's discretion, but its normally granted as outlined above.

aunts and uncles are no longer covered as a paid day off for funerals - haven't been for about 2 years
