Best bet Is to have a word with your union rep. Then have a word with the one who does your rota, praying to god it’s not a manager. You pretty much have to beg, make it sound like your reason for needing a day of is absolutely essential and of utmost urgency. Promise to return the favour at any given opportunity, and then prepare to pucker up.
After all that, I can safely say with confidence...you may or may not get a day off.

A guy in my DO who asked for a Saturday off a few years ago because it was the day of his wedding. The following week he had as holiday for his honeymoon. Needless to say he was denied the day off, had to go out in his own van and sprint around to finish with an hour and half spare to get to his wedding.
It’s alright though, they took absorption off him.

There is no reason in the world for you not to get a day off (if the slot/day is available) 9 fricken months in advance, even a few weeks in advance.
Stating the obvious you are being done over and you need branch involvement if this is a regular thing.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I have to disagree with you I have just started as a trainee manager and on a Tuesday it was 14.30 by the time I had finished it might not be the job for me lol

Why can't we have an annual leave system like the NHS has?

They can log in from home, see exactly how many leave slots are available at their grade for any given day over the annual leave year and then book it online, given subject to manager conformation by the end of the next week their manager is at work.

For popular days, such as around Xmas, managers will attempt to appease as many staff as possible i.e. one staff member cannot hog the whole Xmas week off if others want some days too and there are limited slots.

It's so simple, fair and paperless.

Because we have managers who get bonuses for running the office with as little headcount as possible to get a bonus that contributes to their pensions while we cannot get holidays owed us it's not rocket science just self serving bastards at work!
