You must understand this is not about working your present hour's it is about changeing contractual hour's on any given day tuesday 7 hour's and friday 9 hour's still 40 hour contract just shifting hour's on a day to day basis!.mailman71 wrote:take your d2d's out on a tuesday and work to your time then they wont have any time to take back

Let me tell you life is not all about money if it was i would be ADAM CROZIER no work and all pay!. but i have come to the conclusion that life is for living not about how many pound's i can acumulate in a week i do not mind working 8 hour's a day but 7 hour's one day and nine another you must be kiding me what kind of life is that belivie me this will come to your office soon be afraid be very afraid.crocodillapig wrote:i realise that i was just pointing out that we will not be getting paid for them which in my mind equates to on average a £25 per week drop in wages if that is not one of your biggest problems you must be in processing or something else.

And good on you for you a right don't let them have a penny more than they owe you for you should read my pevious post's in this thread for you will find that long and short's could cost you more than you think and not just you. A week's door to door one lot = £ 8 one hour full time £8.13 an hour which you will lose if you go sick!crocodillapig wrote:you wanna work eight hours a day for nothin go ahead mate but i would rather get paid for what i do in that self same eight hours. my arguement is about getting paid for what i do , i agree longs and shorts are no good for anybody but i will protect my earnings

HOW IT WORKS
Firstly just to clarify, Shorts & Longs has nothing to do with the Variation of hours within the PROPOSED Pay & Modernisation Agreement i.e. varying duty start times by up to 30 minutes on a swings and roundabouts basis.
What Shorts & Longs is all about is a change to only your finish times to reflect the traffic profile, i.e. an earlier finish time on lighter days like Tuesday & Saturdays, and a later finish time on heavier days like Mondays Wednesdays Thursdays & Fridays. In theory it reduces people's chances of booking overtime against extended delivery on heavier days.
This is how it works
If you have a fixed day the length of your attendance could look like the examples in the pic below: (read from left to right, notice how the length of attendance changes if your day off is either a Tuesday or a Saturday)

However if you have a rotating day off it can get complicated as the length of your attendance has to rotate over a six week period, therefore the length of your attendance could look like one of the examples in the pic below: (notice how the length of attendance throughout the week changes when your day off falls on either a Tuesday or a Saturday, the blanks are your rotational days off)

WORDS OF CAUTION
Don't forget your Floaters covering rotational days off, they also have to follow the same pattern of attendance otherwise they could end up working more than their contracted hours of employment.
Don't forget your Reserves for the very same reason as above.
If your manager starts messing about with shorts and longs for rotational days off, make sure he/she has calculated the hours of attendance over a six week period, it must total to 240hrs.
Don't forget the PROPOSED Pay & Modernisation Agreement states that: "Total weekly contractual hours would not change." So that means for example, full time employees = 40hrs per week. No variations such as 4 weeks at 39:36hrs and 2 weeks at 40:48hrs.
Don't forget that the same principles apply to part time duties.
I hope this helps.
All this said, I still voted NO but there's nothing wrong in being prepared if the vote goes the other way.
