Managers covering lapsed duties
It’s a daily accurance for our mail centre manager to lapse duties on all shift and then the operation mangers then covering those duties for all the shift.Dosn’t this new agreement tackle situation under resource issues. The hours dont get booked against the work they do so hourly work output is inflated surely this is a issue that the union should totally outlaw

It is outlawed. Managers can’t do OPG work.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

So what happens when deliveries don't go and:
1. managers don't perform OPG work
2. agencies and casuals are not called in
3. staff are not getting any overtime to do the work
Answer: the mail and packets get left the next day for someone else to do.
Is this acceptable for a company that bangs on about World Class Mail, getting rid of all your Tracked items and 1st time delivery?? And delivery slots??
What the feck has happened to Quality of Service and customer service??
I agree it is difficult to change when a CWU rep is in cahoots with the office DOM....

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Why cant the union put out a bulletin to all branches to be placed on notice boards stayting that managers performing opg work is going against agreements so eveyone knows where they stand and managers cant come back that no one has told them they cant perform opg work. needs to he sorted out

Managers know they shouldn’t do it.mistheword wrote:Why cant the union put out a bulletin to all branches to be placed on notice boards stayting that managers performing opg work is going against agreements so eveyone knows where they stand and managers cant come back that no one has told them they cant perform opg work. needs to he sorted out
The rep should put a disagreement in and go up the IR framework.
It costs jobs and it’s not allowed.

Because the union is not any where near as strong as it used to be. If it doesn't get its act together it will end up like unison. Basically just collecting subs and sending out a quarterly magazine and getting access to the credit union. It doesn't help when most of the top union staff are in bed with management.

Welcome to the wild west way forward, management make it up and union is management . USO does not fit with commercial profit driven short term focused operation.
I wonder how far you get if you report multiple breaches to the
"Regulator"?

If a DOM delivers a walk that is going to fail it's good in the sense that the postie doing that walk the next day hadn't got two days mail to deliver. The customer is also happy as they have received their mail.
The main problem is that RM then uses this to cut the office budget so you have less, or not enough, work hours to complete duties the following year or have no spare budget for stuff like training posties on other walks. I don't think DOMs really want to go out on delivery mainly because it messes the budget up but they have pressure from above to clear all the work.

But this is happening in mail centres across the country where the staff are available to cover vaccant duties if needed we run with a skeleton staff towards the end of the week .Managers say they are not allowed to cover vaccant duties because of budgets so have no choice then perform opg work during there shift and do there own paperwork etc in there own time. They are fools to themselves to scared to stand up to there bosses and again there union turns a blind eye to it all

But then the managers get their pieces of silver bonus, and the incentive is there to ramp up bullying to achieve next years blood money.
Believe me ,some of them are certifiable psychopaths with no morals ;empathy or common decency; The bonus is the bottom line ,they cannot see beyond it .
customer service ,health and safety forget it ;it's all about the money, greed greed greed

Manager's are paid to worry. Cwu are paid weekly due"s to look after the workforce but unfortunately rep's dont give a flying f..k. as for cma they are worse than cwu.mistheword wrote:But this is happening in mail centres across the country where the staff are available to cover vaccant duties if needed we run with a skeleton staff towards the end of the week .Managers say they are not allowed to cover vaccant duties because of budgets so have no choice then perform opg work during there shift and do there own paperwork etc in there own time. They are fools to themselves to scared to stand up to there bosses and again there union turns a blind eye to it all
