Are you personally able to complete your duty in the set time whilst doing the job properly?
Hi everyone,
With the PDA live tracking in place, it would be interesting to know just how many posties on this forum are able to complete their duty in the set times when doing the job properly - no early starts, breaks taken, and no (un)safe places used. Don't include cutting off.
My DOM advised us not to start early (personally I don't do this) as it will skew the data that Royal Mail is gathering. Our office is ringfenced so the higher ups can't track the indoor work and break taken, the PDA signal only pings and activates once away from the office. This means that Royal Mail will automatically assume that the postie has taken their indoor break and started at the set time. If that postie arrives back at the office 30 minutes early, the higher ups may knock off time for that duty in the future when revisions come in. Also, even for those offices that aren't ringfenced, most posties don't log into their PDA until it is time to leave the depot...may be worth logging in as soon as you start. My personal opinion is that RM are looking to cut duty times and save money, maybe even cutting reserves loose...
Because of the PDA tracking, managers of "failing" offices are now being asked why they didn't send "person A" back out delivering when they have finished early. Truth is, that person A may not have had their indoor break, may have started earlier etc.
Anyway, I digress.....(apologies).
I would be very surprised if the majority are able to complete their duties within the set times when doing the job properly. It will be interesting to see the results.

Don't forget shared van duties should use trolleys and not have bags over Thier shoulders.

Very valid pointhothothot wrote:Don't forget shared van duties should use trolleys and not have bags over Thier shoulders.
From looking at the poll results thus far, it looks like a vast majority are struggling. Royal Mail...we are not machines, we are working as best and quick we can and we have our physical and mental limits. Start caring about and appreciating your employees.

Hi, the term was used by my DOM. He used it to mean that there is no signal there and that the PDA tracking wouldn't activate til we get away from the office. That is all I know about it, I should have asked him for clarification.Creditshampoo wrote:What do you mean by a ring fenced office?

I don't think the PDA starts tracking until you get a certain distance away from the office anyway

What about the wi-fi link between the PDAs and the cabinet where the cradles are located?Interested-seeker wrote:Hi, the term was used by my DOM. I've no sympathy for any fool who comes in early and gets sent back out. Old fellah in our office still thinks it's a 4am start. Last few weeks because of PDA data has him finishing at 1130 he's finally been sent back out. Still hasn't clicked about the early starting yet but he might eventually get the idea. Doubtful but it's funny to see him getting sent back out after years of early finishes.

im sure the PDA could track the whole time, but while youre indoors sorting it isnt going to be much use to managers

This is a great valid point, and one that rumbles on and on,I dare say there’s a whole difference in what some consider doing the job properly,as you say right from starting bang on time, meal break, collecting box keys van keys, special delivery items, van checks, etc even before vyou leave the office, proper delivery methods, parking safely, locking your trolley, leaving dockets, toilet breaks, and so it goes on,all should be built in to ensure you have time to do the round from young to old,do away with the culture of fear that doms seem to adopt and think your just being awkward and bloody minded if you challenge them on your in ability to complete your round in the time given,I think now is an ideal time to get this right once and for all,and any descent Dom should be on board with this, but as ever I feel, they will have there remit which doesn’t help one bit,

Seems a pointless poll because people voting no doesn't mean the rounds are too big. Someone else might be able to do them. See it everyday in our office, they even swopped people who couldn't finish their deliveries onto the "easier duties" these then became the duties that where too big and couldn't be finished in time and their old ones where fine
