Later Starts?
Are there any thoughts as to whether start times will be put back across the board in the near future?

Yes. This is essentially what the new deal the union were so desperate to pass it about.

Not desperate, also the changes to start times has never been a secret and there’s been many discussions on it.Creditshampoo wrote:Yes. This is essentially what the new deal the union were so desperate to pass it about.

Remember guys. When they say later start times they don’t mean the shorter working week, they mean later start times.
12 minutes will be nothing in the minds of Royal Mail. They want us to start a lot later and they’ll blame it on that the customer wants to order up until 8pm for next day delivery

I heard the bit about part timers as well. Apparently that is true and the 12 minutes have to come off the start.Harv12 wrote:we got told we havin 4 start times in october earliest being 6:50 am latest 7:40am. he said we can't have the changes on the end of the shift as it would mean changing part timers hours

Later Starts?
There are a number of issues :
The LAT product which gets launch in two weeks which means each mail centre has a later arrival which depending whether it is a 17 tonne vehicle or a sprinter it will have to processed and than trucked to your delivery office. There is only 87 delivery offices which needs to move their start time in the UK as a result of this new product. Additionally there is a maximum of 30 minutes that an office can move inclusive of the SWW.
The hour off the working week will in the main come of a delivery office start time and this is in the main due to indoor work reducing.
Than there is the outcome of the Delivery method trials which is all about not prepping into a frame the first wave of work. the trials will end in October and one of the 8 options will be subject to national negotiations.
This could possibly mean that because you do not sort your first wave than you have not got any work to do until your second wave or your manual is sorted which means no double prep , not enough IPS frames and of course no one can start early as there is no work done.
Additionally all mail centres are targeted with the race to 85% on the first wave of work.
In mail centres an average of 67% of DSA traffic is in the mail centre by 14:00 for the next days delivery.
3% of 1st intra is available by 22:00
20% of second class is available by Midnight
That means the average mail centre has 90% of it sequenced work in the mail centre by midnight but the national average for first wave is around 78%.
Plymouth has 84%
Cardiff has 82
Mount Pleasant 81
Gatwick 81
Swindon 79
Nottingham 79
Newcastle 78
Birmingham 67
The significance of the percentage of mail on the first wave is that Royal Mail"s agenda of not sorting the first wave into a frame will lead to later starts.

Additionally, quality of service will also be impacted when mail comes through in one big late wave. This will happen due to mis-sorts not being fished out properly when it arrives in the mech. I must have had over 20 mis-sorts today just in one tray and do you know, I've mentioned it to managers who aren't bothered as long as they are not out there doing any delivery work. D2Ds not being properly administered according to delivery route i.e some houses getting their D2Ds twice or 3 times because who is to know who's done what and where? Re-directions being missed. Parcels/packets being missed because they haven't being marked up properly. 1st time or 2nd time delivery I wonder
However, it is what the CWU and everyone signed up for and agreed with so I'm sure it will all be a resounding success!!

It's got to go to a DO hub direct, if it doesn't arrive in a MC in time to be processed for the 06:00 dispatch it'll fail. Given that we're failing every night it's highly likely going to fail anyway, Once the 06:00 has gone, the early shift have got the 2C to do and not all MCs have got the room to have inward and outward packets set up at the same timedingo wrote:The LAT product which gets launch in two weeks which means each mail centre has a later arrival which depending whether it is a 17 tonne vehicle or a sprinter it will have to processed and than trucked to your delivery office.

Sorry to disappoint you space it will into the Mail Centre either by delaying a 17 tonne vehicle or by a sprinter. Each Mail Centre has 90 minutes to process it and than it gets trucked to the Delivery Office. Why do you think to get the hour off in Mail centres they are going to have a reliagnment if duties ie resource to the times where the-workload is rather than have traditional early , late and night duties. There will be pressure on early duties , there will be pressure on later finishing times on both lates and night duties and more twi light duties.
