Saturdays and other stuff
Hello,
I got a problem(not only myself as I have noticed on this forum) about Saturdays. I have transferred to a different office 8 months ago and I didn't have one Saturday off since.
This week was supposed to be my first.
I was quite excited about it, made plans with family etc. Yesterday(Tuesday) I've noticed that day off was changed for Wednesday. It happened without any notice or even I wasn't informed about it!
All they said that it was an error and I shouldn't have that Saturday anyway. I'm furious!
I will add that obviously, I'm a reserve so we are treated like trash without any right as I see.
Next thing: I don't know what my day off is until Friday or Saturday. There is no f... way to make an appointment with a dentist or to plan your life at all!
I should probably add that I was one of the last people to book annual leave so all proper dates were taken.
I spoke to DOM about Saturdays and he promised change - it was months ago
Union rep said that I should have 1 in 4 and that's it and about annual leave, he said that I was very unlucky because Juniors were choosing first this time. Wow! this helped a lot! next year I will be unlucky too I bet.
No resolution of the problem. What should I do?
I can't be working like this. I'm kind of a worrier. I feel bad about myself. I feel like I'm the weird one, looking for a trouble. This place is giving me much more stress than I ever expected.
I have moved from an office where I was treated equally. Never had any problems. They even have offered nearly full-time contracted hours to keep me there but unfortunately, I had to move home.
Who should I contact about this Saturdays and work schedules? Can I count on any help?
P.S. I'm the only person in the office to wear my own footwear because it takes my manager 3 months already to get any shoes for me! ( can't order through dimensions)

reserves are havin the same problem at our office. even full time reserves, repeatedly getting tuesdays off every week never getting saturdays, one ive been working with this week hasn't had a saturday off in nearly 12 weeks, when they speak to manager they said thats the way it is.
even tho years ago different management had the reserves shifts worked out 3 / 4 months in adavnce with all getting their weekends, now it seems they can't be arsed to sort it coz its too much hassle, Lazy

You should be having 1 in 4 or 1 in 6 Saturday off . Being a reserve I know is s**t , but remember everyone started like this. But your still entitled to Saturdays off like everyone else is , see your union rep about it. The Footwear problem is in most offices , in my office half the postie's wear Thier own footwear , but be careful if your have an accident the first thing they look at is your footwear. Get your rep onto this also.

Ive been with RM in excess of a decade and I STILL get f****d over regarding Saturdays. To make it worse, those on 1 in 6 and 1 in 4 are given extra Saturdays off at my expense. Like the OP I have seen Saturday's changed to Tuesdays, had Tursday after Tuesdays off in a row and have been told that I am NOT being treated differently as this happens to reserves throughout the company. That's a whole new level self serving bollocks right there.

Its crazy that the union allows this to go on. Happens in our office and every time you dare bring up the subject you are threatened with cutting back your hours (I work a full time week but have 30 hour contract) or threatened with a duty they know u dislike or will effect your private life i.e late collection. Its easy to say contact union but sometimes its like banging your head off a wall

Tell me when your so called union ever enforced a national agreement? It does not happen ,H&s ;attendance ;flexibility ;OT payments ;delivery methods;seniority;mental health; dog attacks;even 1 in 6"s;I could go on.All nice in theory but that's all it is with our management run union.hero22 wrote:Its crazy that the union allows this to go on. Same goes on in our DO with the reserves. And then management actually seem surprised and
proceed to fall into a blind panic when people ring in sick on a Saturday.
