New PDA update.

Coaches going round today showing people what to do so I assume it'll be going live in the next few days.

I'm sure most have seen in work time learning anyway but in summary:

Dedicated deliver to neighbour function, prompts next screen which you put in their house number and street

Dedicated safe place funtion, gives you a list of safeplaces to choose and you must take a photogragh of said item in safe place.

Quite how any place is safe if we have access to it is beyond me to be honest. That's applicable to tracked items only apparently, and the safe place must be stated on the item.

I find it astonishing the lack of safe places that are 'blank' on the item note. I think I see 1-2 a week that are stated as garage/outbuilding etc.

I’m guessing if the customer has specified a safeplace and we have taken a photo of the parcel there, RM won’t be held responsible if it goes missing.

Is this a trial in your area as we ain't heard nowt about it here? CWU agreed this? Nobody mentioned the fact you can't take photos on private property without express permission not implied just cos they're taking delivery of goods from a courier whose terms and conditions for the service include said photography?

So if you scan it and deliver it to a safe place, picture taken. Then later on a thief comes to take the parcel from said safe place, whose to blame and will RM compensate?

I suppose this is another layer of proof but PDA already tells you what time you scanned an item and where you were when you scanned it. If a customer complains about said item it is their word against the PDA actuals info!

On private property, that you have been granted access to, you can take photographs unless you are asked not to, or where in being granted access its not a contractual term that you do not take photographs, usually this is not a blanket restriction more of a commercial restriction on the use of the photographs.

It is a fairly if not very rare occurrence for a tracked item to have a specific safe place location instruction written on it. Once it goes live and we have been shown how to do it with the PDA it won't be too much bother. If it turned into something as common as 2D barcodes then it would start to take up more time.

Our DOM mentioned the taking photos thing in WTLL the other day. It's not 'live' but it's definitely on the way so we will all be doing it eventually. I think it forms part of the 'One Plan' idea. So many of these stupid headings flying about at the moment I lose track.

Other firms take pictures. This isn't anything new. In fact we are years behind.

Yes I have seen the competitors doing that. But given that a lot of them just leave stuff outside the front door, and occasionally the front door of a different address, then they probably have more need to take photos than us posties. so

I can see it ending up we're bringing more stuff back or "accidently pressing delivered". Quite a few times Ive had a tracked saying leave in shed or enclosed porch to find that they haven't got one!

I often cover a rural round and there's no way RM would like some of my customers safe places lol
