We’re many of you on emergency tax when you started and how was it amended? Just calculated if it stays like this I’d be paying more tax than in my old job even though I’m in less money so I’m definitely on emergency tax

I paid emergency tax for 1 week and it was sorted the week after. Did you send in the new starter form that has your number number on etc?

Contact the tax office on 03002003300. They will sort it for you, do not go through a claims company!

Also, mention that you wear a uniform at work with no washing facilities. You'll get a tax rebate too and you can back date it if you've worn one in the past in previous job (s)

Emergency tax is usually only paid until your new employer (in this case RM) receive your P45 from either you or your previous employer, as your P45 confirms your tax code. Once this is received, RM should rebate any overpaid tax paid whilst on emergency tax.

Thank you, this is the first I’m hearing about a new starter number thing.... I have a form with payroll number etc that someone was meant to go through with me but no one has lol

Don’t need to wait for your P45, some companies are slow to send through. You can ring up the tax office straight away.

Don't expect the tax office to be proactive in your rebate! You need to chase them up!
