On delivery and toilet breaks!
We had 2 incidents recently in our DO where p/t colleagues had an ‘accident’ due to being on new duty/not knowing the area and how long will it take to deliver etc..they were very embarrassed and worried that our DOM will find out and mention it during brief as he likes to embarrass people in front of everybody! There are no toilet facilities mentioned in log books and the Union says we are still ‘kind of’ public company and have a ‘historic’ right to use toilet facilities of pubs, shops, businesses etc. Where do we stand? Is it a policy which deals with it? Can we insist on using toilets only in our DO and therefore insist on coming back every time during delivery? Are we insured when using toilets in customers houses etc? I know it is easy when you have your own duty and know where you go when you need it but for new starters it is stressful...:(

Wow, your DOM sounds like a complete POS, enjoying humiliating people like that.
I feel for your colleagues. In this day and age it is nothing short of shameful that workers should be stripped of their dignity in this way. It's horrible, being on a unknown round busting for the loo. Having to scramble around in bushes or use a bottle in the back of a van is hardly ideal. The ultimate alternative, suffered by your colleagues is undignified and potentially scarring for an adult.
To answer your question, I dont know about historic rights, but round our way, most hairdressers and pubs will let you use their facilities. Obviously though, there are many duties without either. In my experience I have found that the little co ops, tescos and one stops won't let you, due to 'security issues'.
I'm pretty sure, however, that you are entitled, if there is no other option, to go back to the DO for a comfort break. Obviously, the practicalities of this can vary wildly. To be honest, this is something I wish the Union were perhaps a little more proactive on. Having colleagues distressed in this manner is just not on.
Oh, and I hope you and your colleagues can rise up and do something about your DOM. He really does sound like a piece of work

Is this real? Who are we employing, children? Surely you know when you need the loo and do what’s necessary so you don’t have an “accident”. Just go and find a toilet!!bogues2009 wrote:We had 2 incidents recently in our DO where p/t colleagues had an ‘accident’ due to being on new duty/not knowing the area and how long will it take to deliver etc..they were very embarrassed and worried that our DOM will find out and mention it during brief as he likes to embarrass people in front of everybody! Once in my stupidity I came to work while still suffering the effects of Narovirus - the winter vomiting bug- which is not something I will ever attempt to do again. Not even water will stay in your system when this horrendous affliction is in your body. Anyway I had to return to the DO several times within the duty to use the toilet which is about a 25 minute round trip.
I don't think shops etc have to allow you to use their facilities and I personally wouldn't ask to use a customers toilet. You are allowed to return to the DO when or if you need to though.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

and the union says... was this the rep?
You should have toilet stops on your walk log,be it or to come back to the office. you should have toilet stops on your 318, you should have had toilet stops during the revision process, your rep should be on the ball with this, there are a lot of should's in this game and wankey reps and bodged revisions!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Lets face it nobody reads the walk logs. If they had and no toilet was mentioned then instead of think oh well I’ll just pee myself they would have asked somebody where the nearest toilet was.

Once you fail to find any Doctors, hospitals, pubs, cafes, fast food restaurants or business premises then go back to the office. Certainly don’t pee yourself. If all else fails then a tree.aiden01 wrote:So what do you do if you cant find a toilet anywhere.number one wrote:Is this real? Who are we employing, children? The chance of being caught is ziltch. Are you telling me you would rather pee yourself than take the risk of a police officer going past at the exact same time as you’re doing it? Also you don’t do it in full view of everybody!aiden01 wrote:And face a fine for urinating in public.number one wrote:Onece you fail to find any Doctors, hospitals, pubs, cafes, fast food restaurants or business premises then go back to the office.
