New 10am actual delivery start time.

One of the neighbouring DOs to ours has just changed the way they operate. They now have to take their first break before going out on delivery and are not allowed to leave the office to deliver their first letter until 10am !!!! The actual delivery part of the job takes up to six hours currently in our office so I don't think it's possible to implement this farce here.

So I just wondered has any other DO just had their actual delivery start time moved forward and enforced ???

No change thus far in our office. There's no way they could do that with us, those of us who do the afternoon collections would never get back in time!

Most of the deliveries in my office don't put their first letter in until between 10.30 and 11.00 as it is (and sometimes even later!). That's without any break being imposed before leaving the office.

I get the feeling all the box collections will get put back completely onto deliveries which would just leave collecting from firms & post offices. I could be wrong but RM are still stuck on cutting costs at all costs.

Ugh! We usually get out on delivery about 8am ish which leaves time for five to six hours of delivery. So if you add in break time and Postie's getting in earlier than they should we are still routinely overrunning . Then we hear there is pressure from above for more cuts. Wouldn't want to be you getting out mid morning.

We left the office at 10am for years. We got a new manager a year ago and he's done some magic and we leave about 9:30 now. Apart from the full time singletons, who leave as soon as they are ready, about 9

All out part timers have an official start time of 9:30 so in theory could never leave before 10 , however the are now starting at 9am.

Thats mad! My official start time is 9:30. I've been told to work 9 - 3:00 but I rarely get back before 3:30, and thats when my duty is fully prepped.

How do you get out at 8am ish ??
what time do you start and what time is your last delivery of yorks to your delivery office??
We start at 6.15 am and our last delivery of mail to our office is 7.50 am and then we have IPS, lucky to be out by 9.40am and then we have a 30 minute drive to start the round . Yours sounds an easy round if you can start at 8am

How can anybody be out at 8.00 surely thas impossible. We're lucky if we're out before 9.00.

The later Royal Mail push the starts, the less time available for (voluntary) overtime to complete rounds, especially at Christmas when it gets very dark at 4pm.

On the rare occasions we get out early , I find it rather intuitive that I bring back fewer items, i.e. People are in, therefore I can hand it over to them, yet the one thing our residential and business customers on our deliveries want is their mail and parcels earlier,is the one thing Royal Mail is determined not to give them. Idiots.

I completely agree with you. The trouble is for the most part the higher echelons within RM have never been Postie's and have no idea how the job is done. Also we deal with a different set of customers to the ones they deal with.

I would guess the grand plan for Xmas is to have the 'volunteer' LAT parcel hubs fully up & running by then. There is liable to be spare capacity in this new network which could then be utilized to help with the inevitable flood of parcels. Personally though I would say RM need to call an immediate halt to downsizing the main network of DOs & staff and instead concentrate efforts on acquiring more letter & parcel business. The high street is on the way out now and its open season in terms of grabbing more business. We can't deliver more mail with less capacity.
