Usless Rep

We seem to be getting into the lapsing season, but our Rep is trying to put a plan in place where she doesn't have to do any and everyone else has to do hers, selfish.

Go above - Area Rep - and get a grievance in. Just cause your a Unit rep shouldn't give you extra privileges like standing around in a CWU hi-vi doing diddly squat all day

Its a thankless task being a rep they need a bit of leeway as they are called off their duties to help fellow workers. Lots moan and hardly any want to do the job.

You often find the area rep usually has the office reps back as is the case in my office.Our rep was never elected but took over from someone else when they left . If we were to have a vote of no confidence in him he would be out but the problem is nobody wants to take over the roll . This however shouldn't mean he gets to do as he likes.

I've worked in a few mail centres and I've known quite a few good reps. They're worth their weight in gold, Really, they are completely underappreciated.

Still, this one sounds like the kind who needs time off to go on manager training courses.

We are now in a situation where we have a useless union.

Yet again a one sided view brings out all the usual derogatory comments about CWU Reps and the union as a whole. Maybe just maybe there is a valid reason for the rep not doing absorption.

Aye, maybe the rep had to attend a weekly resource meeting with their DOM? The only issue I have with lapsing is not whether staff do or don't do it. But that lapsing is only supposed to be done if you have the TIME. So if you tell the manager that you don't have TIME to do it, then that really should be the end of it. Done. Finished. Finito.

Sadly times have moved on . Effectively our "union " has ceased to exist. It now serves as a management tool to neutralize resistance to increased exploitation , and very effective it is to with RM overcoming a 90% strike vote and getting the DC pension scheme they wanted. Question is ,is it carrot or stick ,and what happened to Dave Ward? he seemed like a decent chap.

Our union have just got us one hour off of our working week that should all but put an end to absorption, if we do what for years they have been telling us to take breaks start on time and do not cut corners us not the union are to blame if we still get extra work because of PDA data.

Sorry but I do not believe our union has ceased to exist. I do not know of another industry that has the presence in the workplace that the CWU has.

Sorry but I do not believe our union has ceased to exist. I do not know of another industry that has the presence in the workplace that the CWU has.

I agree that our CWU has massive presence .
Question is ,what role do you think it is performing?
Have your Terms and Conditions improved over twenty years?
How many aspects of these super national agreements has your local /area/national union ,enforced?

NO.

If the hour off your week does not help then you can not complain about having too much work and lapsing the worst thing that can happen is you work 38 hours thats not to much to ask.
