Have amazon delivery drivers caused Royal Mail job losses?

I thought they were delivering what we couldn’t handle, but our DOM has warned us Plymouth has had job losses due to losing a deal with amazon so now they don’t handle any amazon parcels? Any truth in this?

Thought it was the other way round, that we (RM) handle what the Amazon couriers can't cope with especially when it gets to Nov/Dec.

Whether it's led directly to job losses or whether it's the DOM playing mind games - who knows?

Yep here in Shropshire too, Amazon Packets getting more and more, RM couldn't tell the truth if their lives depended on it

I'm not sure about any loss of Amazon contracts. I do know that customers that move large amounts of parcels into our Network have access to RM data showing if parcels go missing, get misdelivered, or not in time or to spec. So if large customers know there are significant 'problems' at say one DO for example they would be able to source other companies or deliver themselves in that area. Not wishing to cast dispersions on your DO or anything but this is something that happens in RM. So be careful out there.

We have dedicated "White van man/men" working for Amazon across our area. We still pick up quite a few "Normal" Amazon parcels (although not as many as we used to) but we do get a lot of the Amazon "Prime" parcels. I can only think that perhaps they don't trust their own couriers to get them there on time.

Amazon started their own delivery service in our area a couple of years ago and yes the packets dropped drastically.

As with all companies profit comes first so if you live in a remote area they will give it to RM but if you live near an Amazon distribution warehouse more than likely they will deliver it

There won't have been any job losses as in redundancies, but he might be right in that there's less work so there's no new vacancies opening up.

Royal Mail losing the Amazon contract was the biggest fail going, it was so obvious it was going to happen as they weren't investing the money to get it delivered, but then maybe they knew Amazon would abandon RM later on anyway once their own delivery firm was going?

I rather suspect your DOM is over-egging the pudding. I've no doubt that various parts of the UK have lost most/all of their Amazon deliveries, with Amazon doing the job themselves instead however I wouldn't imagine that you can point to any lost job in delivery and say "That was totally caused by Amazon taking their contract away".
