Coming in early

Post by eastie »

Yesterday we had a union rep come into our Delivery Office telling members NOT to come in early as it takes hours out of the office.
Today we still got half the workforse coming in early unpaid up to an hour early.
We have half our office come in early and do lapsing and finish on time or earlier
The rest of us come in on time , have a meal relief and leave our lapsing and finish on time.
All the lapsing that is left is given to the early starters to take out up to their finish time.
Why the hell would you come in early just to take lapsing out or extra for no money , working for free. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
These early starters then call the people that come in at their proper start time as LAZY
Are these people thick because I would like them to tell me why they do it.
Are they scared of telling management they are not doing the lapsing ??
Is it a macho thing that they have to finish the round and lapsing??
or is there some other reason?

Some people come in early to have a brew and chat with their mates. Some people don’t like the rush to try and get out the door so just take their time preparing their walks. Most of the people I know come in early get out of the office at the same time as those that come in on time but they’ve worked slower throughout the morning. When some people wake up in the morning they don’t want to spend time sitting around at home so come i to work. The whole argument that people coming in early makes the office lapse more etc is a load of rubbish, it doesn’t.

Your union rep is correct in that the days of 'job & finish' mentality being possible are in the coffin and the lid is about to be nailed shut. Once the AHDC and PDA actuals data start to be acted upon those posties coming in early will literally be destroying the job for those who wish to do the job properly or at all. It will be a major problem for DOMs because if posties don't stop doing this it will result in a lot of hours being lost from office budgets. Offices will lose whole walks and the remaining Postie's will have a lot more work to do.
Personally I think the only way we can fix this is to lock the doors until ten minutes before start time. They will have to learn the hard way that this has to stop now!

What planet are you on ?
Come in early to have coffee ? To have a casual stress free morning to enable them to get out at the
same time as normal starters ?
You must be at the wind up, or on strong medication just now !
The argument that people going in early does not cause the office to lapse more is FACT, not a load of rubbish.
Why not ask your DOM ? What’s his preference early starters or on timers ..?
Geee, some mother’s do have them !! :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Here's where every postie up and down the country need to realise. You have a starting time and a finishing time. Your contract is full time which is great, because you work those hours, don't you?

Now if those posties start before there time, they will either A) get more lapsing to do or B) sooner or later hours will get taken out of your office.

The pda actuals will tell your dom everything they need to know about your shift. Just do the job properly and you either won't have to do more walking and full time jobs will be saved in the end.

I’ve been in the job long enough to know what I’m talking about.
I have actually spoken to many early starters over they years and understand why they do it. Have you? Probably not, you are probably the type who says nothing to their face but calls them behind their backs. Lapsing goes of traffic figures not if people come in early. Fact!

I come in on time and 90% of the office already has their first lorry load in, and are sitting around looking at their watches, moaning about lapsing, and probably wondering why they’re contract hours aren’t getting increased.

If you have been in this job long enough and you think coming in early has no effect you must be absolutely dilutionall. All the unpaid work going on before your start time working through meal breaks etc. etc. Have a good think about what your saying before posting

If he has been long enough in the job, like I have by the way, he is not reflecting the truth.
In my experience figures go right out the window now. It's all about utilising paid hours and that's what incurs lapsing/absorption. IWT etc is a lot of old hat. I have been long enough in the job to know the reality of how a DO works and a DOMs way of managing an office and number ones statement on traffic figures is a red herring .
I do and have spoken to staff about the pitfalls of coming in early and that effect on others by the way, not behind their backs. I am not intimidated by early starters views as to why they actually do it ! They are a hard set of delusional characters and do not fully realise the implications if their actions.
I do have a stronger description of them but will refrain from saying, In fear of post removal and chastisement.
I know the reality, and strongly disagree with number one about figures. He really talks like a number two !

If your office isn’t using traffic figures as an indication if lapsing can be done then you need a better union rep.
