Our place is bringing in late afternoon packet jobs.

Our place is offering part timers the chance to go full time by doing a type of split shift. Normal delivery in the morning followed by packets till 7pm.

They say the jobs are 6 days but surely the hours will be over 35/38/39 a week.

Innovative shift patterns was one of the things we voted on recently. . . and if it creates more full time jobs then it's a good thing ? With a "top" parcels man now at the helm expect to see more "innovation" in regard to parcel deliveries

I don't know how the German or European systems work but reckon best practice (in continental Europe) will quickly arrive in Blighty ???

Someone asked about leaving 739 cards and where the packets will go back to.

The DOM thinks electronic 739s are imminent and you only have 2 days to register your interest.
Glad it is all being so meticulously planned. I will give it a swerve.

How can they make these duties if they have no idea of the level of business they will attract?
We had these duties proposed a couple of xmas ago and abandoned them after 1 day.

I think they’re a good idea and is something I argued should be brought in ,especially as I have no desire to start later and finish later than I already do, and if people get their stuff quicker,so much the better.

In our office these won't be hybrid duties, those on the afternoon packet duties will start at 3pn, finish at 7pm+ . Also not allowed to p739 packets due to covering half a *county*! No doubt they will be expected to nip out and deliver cutoffs as well!

You've got things a little messed up. Even in my office a large town centre DO we had packet only duties out from 2pm to 7pm over the last few Christmas's.

The new drive is for these Latest Acceptance Time packets (tracked?) that RM pushed in the last deal and there is mention in the new agreement about having similar duties all year round where practicable.

We were told it was all very hush-hush and for client confidentiality reasons we were not allowed to talk about it but there were going to be later acceptance times for certain large posters and corresponding duties for xmas.
It never happened.

New service yes, but same kind of duties have been offered the last 2 Xmases to my knowledge just to help out with the huge increase of Xmas parcels

Although the difference is that the Xmas duties were Monday to Friday and attracted a late shift payment that the screws kept forgetting to mention. Oddly enough the uptake was minimal. It will be interesting to see how the uptake of these duties will affect the amount of overtime walking the street done by p/t folk

All offices usually put on extra parcel delivery duties over xmas, it nothing new. Maybe not so much now most are on vans. It is standard practice. Where these duties are different is they will be dealing with LAT products and one delivery office could cover the area of 3/4 other offices.

Having looked at the poster it looks more like gathering a pool of Scheduled Attendance volounteers than contracts getting made up. Imagine they would do it that way first see how it goes before giving out longer contracts. 1 months notice for SA to end different story if they make quite a few up with longer contracted hours.
