Just trying to lighten the mood on here,by asking is it all bad? Are there units out there where all is well? being thanked and rewarded for effort or is the doom and gloom Rife in every office,are their doms out there putting there side of the pressures they encounter from above to run there office on a shoestring regardless of morale and expectations,this whole thing is run on give and take,our boss looks physically ill at times full of wo and worry,sorting lapsing sickness loaning people out and the barrage of criticism that comes his way,he says it’s notvthe job for me anymore after 36 years we’ll im not sure it’s the job for him,fighting our corner at his peril no doubt,always with the ‘I know what time you finished card to hand,all be it he’s never here to see that,any sympathy for them out there? I know we rant at them but are there any reasonable ones out there that try or have they long gone under the stress of it all ?

It isn't all bad of course. Our DO is run well and our DOM is very good. The wolf is always at the door trying to get in though. We have taken ourselves to the limit in terms of dropping walks and incorporating more delivery points and permanent all year double absorption into every walk. Yet still upper management puts pressure on our DOM to see if more lapsing or absorption can be achieved. Our office is largely below the radar so I expect other offices are under even more pressure than ours.
For the last eighteen of the twenty years I have been a postie the message has been to do the job properly, don't rush around too much, take your breaks etc. I still think 90% of Postie's are not observing this message. We need to change and observe more of the rules otherwise the AHDC & PDA actuals will really hit us.

same as Celgar for me i think, everythings pretty good right now, although im sure people who still have the rush around and go home early brigade wouldnt agree as their time is clearly up at our office. Theres still huge room for improvement, a lot of problems are with poor management skills and also with some posties with poor attitude like theyre owed something but they tend to be the older ones who are gradually retiring.
These types of boards are always likely to bias negatively as people usually come for help, im sure theres many worse offices than mine thats for sure, id say ours is good overall.
However why this has happened at our office id say is we`ve had amazing union reps over the years, who know the rules and will challenge the DOM when they want to force things through like lapsing (which we never do until the summer period) I see many others posting here who do multiple lapsing on a daily basis, its so strange how differently offices are run and I think its mainly due to how much the workforce is willing to bend over and having a strong union rep to know how they can argue against it.

23 walks - 11 a day need prepping for PT posties and absorptions.
1 person on IPS, 2 people on packets, 1 person scanning in tracked.

office working with a suggested 66/34% FT/PT split.

3 long term sick
2 short term
1 rehab ( out at a mail centre )

4 annual leave.

part timers being sent in from other offices who only ever complete half a walk.

5 reported part failures ( one postie took out a road from 4 walks so they were not full walk failures )

we have currently got a dom ( singleton office ) who only got a cover line managers job in January after never even being a postie.
not their fault they are sinking, they don't have the experience to cope.

yeah, it's pretty bad out there.

If you are left to do the job it's fine. Offices seem to run better without DOMs.
Constant daily variations make the job a lot worse, and posties do not like routine changes.
What I find strange is most management problems are automatically passed on as an additional problem to be solved by the posties. Undermanning problems, sickness etc, all transform into posties problems and not management incompetence.
Problems in running a DO are not their problems seemingly, clear office policy,don't pay proper OT is their ONLY concern.
They shrug their shoulders and say get on with it, sit back and enjoy loads of coffee once all the idiots leave, and yes that's their reference to posties not mine !

Is it all bad um that's a hard one ? Well actually I'm off long term sick at the moment so it ain't that bad. I reckon most offices would run perfectly alright without Dom's and management. Think about it what exactly do they do everday bar pushing York's about and bullying staff. And don't forget cocking up your overtime.
