PDA Update to include use of camera

In WTL this week our DOM told us the PDAs are getting an update soon which will allow us to use the camera to take photos of parcels left in a “safe place”. This is due to the amount of complaints we’re getting from people saying their parcels haven’t arrived and putting in a claim against RM. So what happens if we leave a parcel in a shed or garage, take a photo of it there, but the customer complains it’s not there?

Why not have a list of addresses that have claimed and only deliver to them or 739 every item no next door no safe place.

Apparently due to regulations if someone complains that they have not received their mail or parcel RM automatically pays out compensation. So this means customers can receive compensation even if they actually have received the item. I imagine most people are honest and wouldn't do this but a percentage will try it on.

It hardly ever happens but if I get someone saying they haven't received a parcel when I know they have they get strict rule following in future. P739 if possible.

Taking a photo of where you left an item proves absolutely nothing. You could take a photo of the item then pick the item back up.

RM better get some more data allowance then as the PDA's can't cope with text data let alone sending several megs worth of photo.

PDAs don't work half the time so how are we going to take pictures , you could take pics and parcels still go missing ? What next I wonder ? Video cams on top of your bonce.

If there not in I write out a p739 ,no neighbours, no in a safe place etc.
If they moan I say I will not doorstep packets and parcels like couriors.
NO COMPLAINTS

So much for first time delivery. I think this will just increase the amount of p739s left. A good deal of parcels currently get left in sheds, greenhouses etc but they’re not technically safe places if they’re always left unlocked.

Heard police complaints (both people complaining about the police and the police complaining about the public) went down 96% when body cams became standard issue.

People act really nicely when everyone knows that everything is on camera.

Exactly. So much stuff will be brought back they won't know what to do with it if this idea goes through.

That's their problem not mine. I cannot see how delivering to a neighbour is any safer than a shed,etc. I've stated it before, I will not try neighbours, for several reasons, first is the embarrassment of a refusal, second is time and third, but probably should be first, security, I don't know, if I'm a reserve, who gets on with who in a particular street far better to bring it back. Anyway , what about these new data protection rules, how does taking a photo fit with this? What are they doing with the photos? What if it's a "special address " etc etc.

Wouldn't surprise me if they became standard issue for all delivery staff
