Is there a national agreement in place which gives a date when this will come in? Or is it all going to be down to local agreements?
Cheers.

The first hour is supposed to be October but it's subject to all kinds of things, which may never happen.

All pie in the sky ! An empty promise that's not fairly applicable to ALL members and is not feasible, another RM con.
Our leaders should be embarrassed and dip their heads in shame if they really think it's ever going to happen.
A no guarantee clause in a poor agreement.
Posties will still not get payment for being over contracted hours as they are just now!
RM will still accrue millions in unpaid free work from idiots doing that unpaid work out with their official contracted hours.
Well done RM, you know the true mentality of posties a lot better than our CWU negotiators.

From a previous post
The 2018 Deal Justice for the 89.1% RESPONSE

Reduction in the Working Week

The reduction to 38 hours will in fact happen in October. What has been agreed is that we will undertake trials only for its introduction and not that it is subject to them being implemented or resourcing to workload, individual performance data etc, etc. The working day will be made up with various attendance times that suit the ability to create innovative duty structures, and the flightpath to 35 hours helps increase this even more.

So I read it incorrectly. Reduction in hours WILL happen & is not SUBJECT to trials!

To quote Dingo in a post 2nd March 2018

"There is a shorter working week this year in October which will happen.
Part timers will get an additional pay rise in October of 2.665%."

It's a common problem in delivery, non payment of overtime, over and above contracted hours.
Like 10 - 20 mins over, people claiming break time after official finish time, others complete on time, etc.
I know it's wrong but many don't even pursue the money owed far less lodge a grievance. DOMs play on it !
Maybe not on your patch but reading many posters on RM chat it is not an isolated problem UK wide.

this 1 hour of the working week in October ,is it up to each office of how they implement it,our dom suggested 12 minutes of each day or taking an hour off your Saturday finish time, think the Saturday option would suit most people

An hr off sat would never come in. Imagine the cut offs to cover, no manager is gonna want that problem.

My thoughts exactly, can only see it being a variation of minutes off per day rather than a 60min lump

You read one person's opinion.

I read the agreement and formed my own opinion. Virtually everything in it is 'proposed'. To propose something doesn't mean you promise it.

No one trusts Royal Mail to keep promises anyway..

Depends on what time people are finishing on a Saturday in an office. If 90% are finishing an hour early it would make sense. Less hassle all round and just means less of a flyer for the 90%

Well in our office Saturday tends to be a busy day but people usually get out as quickly as they can as they want to get on with their weekend .... but if they were to take an hour off the finish time i don't think people would rush as much as they know they could only make 20mins so why bother, may as well plod along as you're still going to finish roughly around the same time as when you rushed.

That persons opinion was Tony Bouch – PEC Member in a personal capacity.

I was being self- detrimental in assuming what I read in the agreement was not how I understood it. In the same way as you & others have understood the wording.

Confusion by design ! Even our PEC members are not immune to misinterpretation.!! No surprise there.
I have no faith in their true understanding of the deal and know they will leave members to the dogs.
The problems they create are always left for local attention, the result is confusion with increased intimidation.
The deal is heavy on proposals and trials, with very little substance.
By the time it is left to local interpretation and agreement it is business as usual.
Conned, and the intimidation stars all over again. Watch this space !

If the reduction in hours is not implemented then the agreement will not be honoured for part-time colleagues in regard to the pay increase. I cannot believe they would allow one of the four pillars to fall at such an early stage despite reservations on the wording of the agreement.

From the frontline manager briefing pack;

From October 2018, a one-hour reduction to the working week, subject
to completion of trials in the operation to help improve customer service
and productivity.
•• From October 2019, a further one-hour reduction to the working week, subject
to a joint evaluation of factors including ongoing efficiency, implementation of
changes from trials in the operation and technological changes.

Part-time colleagues •• An increase in hourly rate of pay in October 2018 and 2019 to reflect the shorter
working week of full-time colleagues. This is in addition to the pay award for all
eligible colleagues.
•• We will honour our agreements regarding part-time colleagues
