Hi all,

I have just transferred to a different office. My old office had the overtime sheets that you can fill in yourself - 552s, really easy. But I have just started at a new office and everyone there says that they have to tell the DOM what overtime they have done, there are no sheets to fill in. Apparently, a former union rep got it sorted out once but now it has gone back to just telling the DOM what hours. Lots of people have had issues with getting the correct overtime paid, with it being short (never over  ).

I'm stressed that I will also not be paid properly. Everyone there looks completely fed up with how they are treated and morale is really low...that's obvious.

I have been stitched up by Royal Mail management since I have started. At my old office, I started on deliveries and then was moved to a later start time and made to do 1 hour delivery and 3 hour collections 5 days a week . That was bad enough. But now I am expected to do some delivery from 9 til about 12 and then go home and then come back for collections at 3pm. I'm conscientious, polite and hard working...but I may now find myself having to argue for my rights. The union rep there is apparently useless and ineffective....someone hasn't been paid properly for last 4 weeks and nothing is getting done about it. It is just downright disgraceful....Royal Mail should be ashamed that it doesn't respect and treat its employees fairly.

I feel for you I've done split shifts before and I wouldn't want to go back on them.

I wouldn't entertain that kind of duty and would be gone before the door slammed behind me. There has to be a job somewhere else better for you than that. That kind of duty is just using people.

Pretty certain there is an allowance for split shifts, maybe WF agreement. Make sure you claim it, it might encourage your dom to review your situation!

So they've doubled your travelling expenses!

I'm pretty sure they can't make you do that. They can tell you what to do during your normal working hours but that's ridiculous.

As for the overtime, we used to predict it in a book before we went out, then write in the correct hours and reason at the end of the shift. Now we have to see manager before we go out, sign the book then tell him if it was correct. Guess what, he's never there. If he is, he questions you and generally makes it hard for anyone to claim. The amount of overtime paid has dropped due to people just giving up and working for free. I've taken to leaving notes, and checking carefully every week. When it's not correct I need some serious encouragement not to cut off. I start by leaving my lapsing and being generally awkward.

It makes me furious that RM, which makes millions in profit, refuses to pay employees for performing overtime. It’s not even time and a half. Most firms would be grateful of their employees doing some overtime to clear the work on busy days.

I agree I think its ridiculous..its not time and a half and with the personal allowance tax threshold being quite high right now its not even worth doing because 100 percent of our overtime is taxable where a lot of our wage is not...that's not royal mails fault though but I do think its something they need to take on board and soon...in our office were told to tell the manager what we will be over before we tie down...he agrees the overtime but then doesn't pay it...then asks why was I over my time anyway as theres no reason for anybody to be over there time..which is a polite way of saying I'm too slow :chuckle

lol f you’re not paid properly

1. Grievance. State you will follow the procedure until you’re paid correctly.
2. Stage 2 grievance.
3. Early consilliationn with ACAS.

If the shoe was on the other foot they’d do the same. Don’t take no for an answer.
