Green cards to collect pda

In our office once the ips frame has been cleared of missorts & not before we have to wait to be given a green card with our delivery numbers on & then go to the cage to collect our pda, we are not allowed to have our pda until we are bagged up & ready to go.we have been told by the dom that this is in place all over the other offices so can you tell me if this is true? Sometimes we have to wait up to 15 minutes before a line manager appears with these cards & almost everyday we are late out the office.

Not at our place,you can get them once the specials are done.

Why worry this gives more scope for cutting off or claiming overtime and either way it shouldn’t last once cost implications are realised

They tried something similar at our place a few months ago. After about a week of managers being hounded by posties to get permission to collect their keys/specials/PDA, the requirement to do so was quietly dropped. It was such a strain on our already overworked line managers.

That’s a big fat no in our office,another daft idea no doubt conjured up by someone who’s bored,and wants to provide yet another hoop to jump through,people simply want to get on and get the job done,we collect our pda when we collect our keys and specials,and sign for our van,it ain’t rocket science you don’t need to big this job up it’s very simple.

This has been going on in our office for about 2 months now & it's driving us mad.we were assured it was happening all over obviously it's not.

Do you have to sign for PDAs in DOs? In MCs you have to sign for PDAs

Here the PDAs are in a cupboard and you can grab one anytime you want.

Why would they want to delay their staff going out on delivery? Seems a strange process, what's the reasoning behind it?

We have always signed for the vans and for the special delivery items on separate sheets. We also sign for the fuel cards when we go and fill up the vans after one card got lost or went missing. I have not heard of these green cards nor being asked to sign for the PDAs in our area or in our DO.
Once the PDA actuals start being collected and acted on I imagine it would make sense to sign for or collect and activate the PDAs just before you actually leave the office. Otherwise the timings collected from the PDA would be inaccurate and it might seem like you were taking your twenty minute break when you were actually pulling out and bundling up your mail. As others have said we currently collect and activate our PDAs when we take our redirections to the callers office and collect van keys and SDs. Then we pull out and bundle up so the PDA is on but not going anywhere for some time.
Our DOM told us earlier this week that the CWU is currently questioning RM as to how and what they are going to do with the data. Yet another case of the CWU recommending us to vote Yes but no one has a f****** clue except maybe RM as to the outcome of doing so.

Historically RM delays us going out to delivery to make sure we work all the time we are paid. But if we go over time no one wants to know. Then if SDs are not delivered in time our heads are on the block.

Ours are in a stand, you just collect them whenever. I tend to grab mine first thing as I cover a few business duties; you tend to get knockdowns that need scanning gone away so I do them as I sort.

Are PDAs going missing by any chance? I've had to write on a delivery epos card this week because of no PDA. Im sure doing it this way in your office it will at least give the managers more reasons to document what they are documenting.

It is crazy, all it is actually doing is getting us all to leave the office at the same time.the easier deliveries would normally leave first but now we are not allowed to leave before 9.30 so you can imagine the chaos in the yard with everyone trying to leave at the same time. The other week if we refused to take out a bit of a delivery that wasn't covered we were told that if we were caught loitering we would be dismissed
