Air con

Are any of the royal mail vehicles fitted with air con? Not in my office at least. I think the union should’ve demanded air con to be fitted in the vans from now on as part of the new agreement. We’re out in the sun for up to 6 hours in the middle part of the day doing a physical job, the least we deserve is a bit of comfort while we work. Is this not a h&s issue?? We’re not even allowed to open windows due to the safeguarding of mail being put at risk.

I really hope you’re Trolling and a poor effort at that. I hope you don’t spend enough time sat in your van for the air con to kick in.
Not allowed to open the window? Who has told you that then?

No they don’t,well my 15 plate Peugeot doesn’t,I think your allowed to have the window open a certain amount,but hay just use your loaf ,if your hot open the bloody window! I think we have other issues to resolve.

So a thief is going to steal from you whilst your driving with the window open??

I'm sure if the window was open and you left the vehicle then you could be in trouble for leaving the mail at risk.

I dare say they could have you for anything they wanted to,if they wanted to get rid of you,the tools for the job and proper procedures for deliveries really need bringing in line with delivery times etc,rounds tested from start to finish,all van checks done,meal breaks,and delivery methods adhered to,then see how long it takes,not flying round and cutting corners just to complete,

I had a ranted Transit all over Christmas, had climate control, cruse control, sat nav, heated seats. Was gutted to give it back!

We have a fleet of 50,000 vehicles, imagine the added cost of purchasing every new vehicle was ac. Imagine the additional running cost with the extra fuel used. The bill would be milllions probably. The best part is if your office is like mine you wouldn't be in the van for more than 2 or 3 minutes that you move around a walk, not long enough for ac to even be effective!

Never mind aircon,2 keys would be nice, or a radio that worked,or,and i dont want to sound greedy,a side door that slid open without a herculian effort to open it

Can’t open a window? What planet are you on? While you are driving of course you can open a window! Mail shouldn’t be in the cab anyway so why would an open window be a problem. When the van is unattended then windows must be closed of course.

All the trucks have it. But most aren’t working as they’ve ran out of gas.

The just literally got the machine to top those up so having vans with will never happen in a million years.

A van that we could actually fit the work into would be nice. Larger packets(now up to as big as as a small filing cabinet regularly) mean its actually becoming a H&S issue just using the existing vans.

I remember when the vans didn't have radios. Then most new vehicles had them fitted as standard, so in effect there was no extra cost to Royal Mail. The same will happen to aircon, when it's standard fitment to vehicles, we'll get it.
