IPS shambles

Our IPS is a total shambles
We have Park and Loop full time pairings where one goes up in IPS both times
We have Park and loop pairings with one F/T and one P/T where neither go up as the F/T throws off his partners frame during IPS
You then have the single trolly duties that are so heavy that they dont do Ips either
Total cock up with hardly any sorters

Ours too. It's been changed so many times that no one knows what anyone else is doing and it all seems unfair. Rumour has it we will get it sorted in the next few weeks (pun intended).

Less sorting means later out of the office which means no time to do any lapsing which could also lead to cutting off as there's not enough time within your working hours to get everything done,no need to stress really.

Sorters taking the piss in my office by going for coffees, toilets to read facebook on their phones, talking about either football or pop music rather than get on with it so we can get out early, they are the first to complain but are first back everyday with 1.30hrs still left on their duty. Some sorters have been there 25 years plus and you would think they have a neck brace on as they still look at the overheads to see what walk a street is on.

Ours is a game of cat and mouse between the gaffers and full timers as people sneak off to prep their walk when they should be sorting. Quite funny to watch to be honest.

delivery preps shambles some do 2,3,or 4 prep mech or to completiom
pt in on otime ,before start time
ips under staffed ,
no porters
people out on deliv 1-2 hrs before others

that sounds like our place as well , it must have been a national agreement but nobody told us

, the full job is a joke , but lets see if this new agreement changes anything

Yet again our orifice is totally different, we have no park and loop only rural s and hct''s ,so full timers do all the ips and part timers get paid an hour extra to prep their the rounds that they are on that day,
Lapsed duties are prepped by the phg or another full timer.
It actually works pretty well.
I must admit some of the sorting is rubbish and thats not from new people,one guy i am pretty sure just throws handfuls of letters into any box,where i sort there is no overhead but do you really need one when you have worked in the same orifice for eighteen years.

Ours is a shambles too.

This morning I counted 9 full timers on the IPS. Five were sorting packets, 2 sorting flats and 2 sorting letters. No CSS machines in our mail centres so the majority of our mail isn't walk sequenced. There were 16 other full timers on their own frames - their duties are deemed too big for them to do any IPS (some are, but some are 'at it'). Also on their frames were the 8 part time duties. We have 2 porters who seem to spend most of their time on their frames as they're only having to empty the work that 4 sorters are doing.

Those on their frames have plenty of time to go for coffee, stand around doing nothing, play with their phones and sneak out for a smoke whilst moaning about how busy they are. I'm one of the 9 who do IPS, morale can easily be affected when you see others doing sweet FA

Your DOM needs to look into that, presumably all the CSS machines that cover the area covered by your local MC are located in MPUs. All iLSMs and IMPS (afaik) are fully capable of sequencing mail

Our’s seems to work quite well. Two waves of sorting to coincide with mail arrivals. Everybody has been given something to do in that time, only ones who don’t partake are the F/T who work with a P/T that doesn’t start until the second wave is nearly finished so they spend their time prepping 2 frames whereaseveryone else in only responsible for their own frame during prep time. Means that everybody is pretty much in the same boat.

It's all down to p**s poor management, they are in charge, but if they don't grow a pair some people will always take the mick out of fellow workers. Human nature that can only be dealt with by management. Managers lately only seem interested in whether the office is cleared, how it is done and if it was done fairly is not of the slightest interest to them. Boils down really to a proper crap company from the top down.

The nearest mail centre is 40 miles away and is about to move to a bigger premises. They will be getting the machines next year so that should be us sorted. Currently the closest MC with machines is 70 miles away so our little office isn't priority for walk sequencing due to the geographical location.

Mine too; a pit of vipers, it's dog eat dog and the last thing on anyones mind is providing a reliable service, management especially

That depends on how many revisions you've had in that 18 yrs. We seem to get them every 4 yrs, all the sorting changes, split roads on different walks ect. So you have to re learn the changes.
