What's the job like now

Hello I'm Steve worked for RM for 20 years as a postie left in 2008 to go driving never regretted it had some good times and bad just wondered what changes have been made since is it more busier now with parcels has mail volumes droped ,think you all do a fantastic job and appreciate all your hard work don't think the normal Joe public realize how hard you all work and don't get me started on some (not all management) ha ha

RM has a crazy idea they are working on to get rid of the sorting frames in DOs. I'm just waiting to see if they manage to get away with implementing it and the end result.

so good I'm leaving June/July time. have a decent duty, 15 or so years doing the job but got to the stage where I find it mind numbingly boring. plus there are going to be some brain dead ideas being implemented now we have agreed for Royal Mail to shaft us. all in all love it

Its like any job it’s how YOU make it. I love it, do pretty much what you want as long as yoj get the job done. If you are quick you go home early, if you want to earn more money drag your feet. Once out and delivering you are still pretty much your own boss. Working outdoors chatting to people, is great. You can also be a depressing, moody so and so and moan about anything and everything to anybody who will listen. You can earn good money in this job.

Oh dear oh dear another crazy idea from those that havent got a clue about the job! Its scary to think of what they will come up with next just to try and save a bit of money!!!!
I have never known a company chop and change work practices so much without thinking what the ramifications will be! Can you remember the fiasco of Consignia? Long and shorts,starburst,electric bikes,pegasus the list is endless and which worked and how much they must have cost the company when they realised for whatever reason it wasnt working,and then some bright spark would come up with another idea!

It makes perfect sense to have smaller frames.
The mail comes in trays in sequenced order and we take it out of the trays to put it in frames in sequenced order.
To any objective outsider that is a complete waste of time.
A smaller frame to sort the IPS and then merge it as you tie it up.

What about days when the machines spit out a load of rejects or days where the inward breakdown plans on the IMPs/iLSMs run late and 1 or more boxes come off the IMP/iLSM after the batch has been run (or at least after the 1st pass)?

I remember when they said the mail would be already sorted so you could get out almost as soon at your arrived at work!

oh dear....we have "gone live" as they call it this week with the pda`s 3 sec ping....so the dom knows how/were you have been and for how long.
I aint trying to hide anywere but each morning from 6am he can look at everybodies route and times from the day before....already they are having little chats with lads about being in the same are for a few mins at a time....

we don't go home early....u cannot sit out if u do get round with time to spare u go back to the dom waiting with extra work to take u up to your time.
we d get a kick if theres not many early so he has mail stuck in the office..

Well after some 37 years it’s become a gutty slog at times,but as some have said still at times a great job,but sadly being missed managed by managers cost cutting and box ticking at every opportunity,a culture of fear exists with management cutting hours and overtime and things getting done on a wing and a prayer,I love my rural round and it’s the customers that make you smile,and maybe it’s not the job for me any more as my boss keeps saying,but will hang on and see if evr is an option,and as I keep saying doing the job properly,safely and securely takes longer and they ain’t keen on that until something goes wrong,rounds not tested by management who haven’t a clue where your round goes and what’s involved,but hey we get paid Friday,I wish you well my friend.
