CSS Machine In Delivery office.

With the introduction of CSS machines in delivery offices we originally had 2 machines. At a later date this grew to 3 machines. With the introduction of the 3rd machine we had to have more people go onto nights to operate them. We have now been told we may be losing one of the machines to go back down to 2.

Now, one of the machine operators has been doing it for 4 years and there is somebody who is more senior to them that has been doing it for 2 years. With the loss of the 3rd machine one member would have to revert back to day and delivery. Now how would this be decided? Last in first out or based on seniority?

I would imagine, as with everything in Royal mail, it's based on seniority but I could be wrong

I believe that whoever has received nda the longest will keep their duty, not pure seniority.

Interesting.

Most nights tend to be long serving guys. So what happens to the one who comes down?

Have they got a duty for them or are they a reserve? Seems unfair that a 20 year plus guy ends up as a reserve through no fault of their own

Do you have two people operating each machine
I.e health and safety wise you are only supposed
to work two hours on then two hours off
In EHMC we have 9 machines 18 operators .

Different rules in delivery offices. There isn’t the same “other work” available for the second operator. In my MPU, we have 3 operators covering 2 machines. The two hours on, two off has never applied.

There's probably no MPU that has the other work available to make 2hrs on 2hrs off viable. The minimum is 2hrs on 1/2 hr off. In an MC the CSS operatators might well cover an iLSM or IMP as part of the time away from the CSS

this last week we've had only 2 on nights each running a machine each all night, nothing else been sorted, dom wont spend the cash which is there to staff up. Bonus due i expect
