Just wanted to say thank-you to everyone on here who has provided advice and suggestions over the last seven years i've been with royal mail. I was in receipt of ill health retirement today, at the last moment before the change to pay in lieu of notice came into affect this week (which I'm sure wasn't clear in the notes that came out about vote). I wish everyone the absolute best of luck but feel this agreement is a bit of a shafting. My ill health retirement is a result of osteo-arthritis in both knees, which i've no doubt is a result of long walks and pressure put on to get work done. I imagine a lot of other people are in the same boat and wish them the best of luck. I'm only 40 and have wrecked knees now for life which affect every aspect of life. only thing i can't believe (although having what i feel is a good payout) is that i won't be receiving backpay for the pay increase, which i think is a bit shocking, but it was sacrifice the back pay or the pay in lieu of notice. Best of luck everyone in what I can only foresee as being a rocky future!

apparently in the new agreement was something about the pay in lieu of notice being removed for ill health retirement. my area union rep notified me of this last week after i had my second oha appoinment. i was on the phone annoying all that i could on thursday and saturday morning to get it through. he said it had to go through by last saturday with a leaving date no later than 6th april, so they put that date through on saturday as the leaving date.
regarding the backpay, i can't believe the ltb received yesterday saying they're negotiating it, surely it's all been negotiated, nothing left to negotiate expect putting the meague payments in the poor workers pockets....hold on, as of tomorrow i'm out, gosh i wish you all luck
