Lapsing - is it compulsory?

Just thought I'd ask this very simple question.

Do we have to do lapsing? Is it compulsory? Do you ever bring it back if you reach your finish time?

No it's not - if you feel it will take you over your finish time by doing it then you have to tell your manager before you go out, in reasonable time, that you won't manage it...

Have heard posties in my office, mainly the older ones, saying they would rather lose half an hour pay each day then have to do lapsing.

Guess they must be finished half hr early every day then. If you got time for lapsing why the hell should you be complaining for having to work the hrs for which you are paid? If you ain't got time, don't do it, unless you want the docket for doing it. Easy.

Think its more that they are exhausted after doing their own duty.

You only lapse IF you have time. A certain Manager in our office will try every trick to try and get you to do it. But stand your ground and for god sake make sure you do not go back to your office early.

In our office, if you tell them you haven't got time to do the lapsing they will tell you that the lapsing has to go so leave some of your own duty. It's an astute managers ploy because it's amazing how many people will not leave any of their own duty in so they take it all!

We lapse if it's possible, have started keeping a note of my time delivering first letter, then when we finished our last letter also when we lapsed,with the pda now sending data every 2 seconds think it's only a matter of time before they start scrutinising everything you're doing

Of course they will. Our office is trying to making lapsing compulsory and its only really compulsory if you have the time to do it. Managers under pressure seem to be telling us to take the lapse but leave the big packets only for us to find that our big packets are still there tomorrow and the day after that because the lazy sods just won't do it, nor pay anyone else to do it. In the end, they do get delivered - but at the expense of customers receiving a far inferior service. I've reported it at least twice but nothing happens other than line managers getting moved about.

Exactly my friend! And what a battle it is trying to get the fast guys to see that,they would happily take there bit of lapsing and go even quicker and make us old farts feel even more undervalued,but each to there own,then we can’t have docket cos we finished early a while ago,!? Never understood the idea to let your boss know you can’t complete before you go out,but I guess the other way is no good as he’s probably gone home if your actually late and it’s another carpet sweeping debacle mmmmmm

Just work your hours using the correct equipment , finish on time bringing any collapsed or own round back but make sure you've instructed the manager that you'll only be working your duty hours and not any overtime

no its not compulsory , if you have got time or you want the o/t then that's your choice , and if you dont then its a big fat no can do

, give it to the runners who finish over an hour early everyday and you allow to go home on pay

, mind you clocking in and out should stop that one and about time imo

, and don't forget we will be losing an hour off the working week in Oct so even less time to get your own delivery done never mind an extra
