Part timers doing full time, snow problems
This week, part timers who have been doing full time walks, sometimes for years, that have been sent home due to the weather, have had their hours reduced to their part time contract hours.

1. Your rep is useless
2. Get on them ASAP, go above their heads. Keep going above and above until it’s sorted. Doing full time hours for years if taking the piss to be honest and it nddds sorting. Your rep needs to at least use the IR framework if management won’t make up your hours.
3. Grievance
4. Only work contract hours. I know it sounds daunting but if you only work your contract hours say, on a Wednesday or a Thursday whichever suits you best management will be FORCED to hold. Get others on it too. This is the only proven method of the union have failed you.
5. Wait a few weeks
6. Profit

Sorry, what did you expect?t3mcIUQWE2 wrote:Pathetic responses. As to be expected.

You are part time, you get paid part time hours. If you work full time you get paid full time.
You might as well never ask a question on here again if you’re just going to be like that and not take perfectly good proven advice on board

Doesn't affect me, but I don't sell my colleagues down the river. Pathetic.Creditshampoo wrote:Sorry, what did you expect?t3mcIUQWE2 wrote:Pathetic responses. As to be expected.

this is local issue, PT in many cases do get made up to FT, seems your DOM is being very stingy but it seems the PT have also been complicit by consistently going over their contracted hours without pressing for FT hours

My understanding is that this is a national issue. Never the less, the responses above are pathetic. I can't believe people would abandon their colleagues so easily.Postie45 wrote:this is local issue, PT in many cases do get made up to FT, seems your DOM is being very stingy but it seems the PT have also been complicit by consistently going over their contracted hours without pressing for FT hours

In the case of posties doing full time for years on part time contracts that should obviously be chased up by your union rep and part timers converted to full time as there is obviously a need for it.
Regarding the other I would think you are on part time contract and the remaining work is on overtime so you would only get paid for the part time contracted work.

I really do not see what is pathetic except, If someone is on PT hours but have been doing FT hours for years and it has not been sorted by a Rep or the DOM.
the answers given were just stating the facts, if someone is on a certain contract and they go home early or can't attend due to the weather, they are going to ONLY get those contract
hours paid to them, RM is not going to pay them FT for work they have not done as for them it would be OT. The same if they are on holiday they only get the contract
hours that they have. No this is not fair and people need to do things to change it, but it will not happen overnight.
You need to get the members to stand together and do ONLY their contract hours for a week things will soon change, RM works on the expectation that PTimers will
do the extra hours without making them up.
I do not know what you expected from the forum?
Regarding a walk out, there is no reason for a walkout for this as RM have nothing wrong.
You need to get them all to stand together and work their hours and you will see things change
Good Luck

If you are full time but usually do loads of overtime, you don't still get paid that overtime if you get sent home and are therefore not doing it, do you.

There is an agreement about PT going over their contract hours, they should be reviewed every 6 months and FT contracts granted to those regularly doing FT hours. Just another agreement ignored by RM and I expect even more to be ignored with this new wishy washy deal. Vote NO.

As far as I am aware the FT contract would be offered to the fulltimer with the most seniority regardless of whether he/she does any ot or not, that’s how it is in our office anyway. Many offices may be the same resulting in part timers not being able to band together to push their manager into making people up to ft as they would lose the overtime they’ve been relying on for so long. Something that needs sorting in my eyes.

Indeed any upgrade to FT is done on seniority, so a senior PT only working their hours would be offered FT before a junior PT that does extra every day.
Several PT were made up in our office a few years ago as they forced a review by only doing their contracted hours which highlighted the need for extra hours to be put into the office.
