Anyone using HCTs in the snow?!

HCT users... please let me know if you're being asked to go out on delivery on paths that are still covered with snow and ice? Have been out today and it was horrendous! Surely we can refuse?! Please advise.

If in your opinion you feel it is too dangerous then ask what will happen to you if you refuse to go out on the grounds that it is too dangerous. Ask in front of witnesses. It’s a good technique.

- It says HCTs should only be used on clear surfaces. Show them that and ask what will happen to you if you follow that instruction.

All the HCT's went out in our office, can't believe it was allowed and that people were actually willing to push them!

I would NEVER take an HCT out in snow or ice, not just for my safety, but it could easily go sliding off and hit a car/pedestrian too. Personally, on a HCT round, I would take a loop or two out on foot within a short walk of the office (coming back for the next loop's mail each time) in up to an inch or so of FRESH snow as I am happy that my H&S isn't at risk. Any ice or deeper snow then no chance, but it's a judgement call for ME/YOU to make to go out. The DOM can make the decision to not send you out, but you make the decision to go out 'at own risk' not him/her.

Taking a trolley out IN THIS!!! I can barely walk in it it never mind push or pull a trolley!

I took mine out, but the snow was no more than a couple of CMs, no problem at all. The trick is to get bags dropped out keeping the weight in the HCT low. More snow than that and i doubt i would do it. Far too tiring pushing it about!
