Post by POSTMAN »

To those that have been to the briefings can you give us your thoughts on how it went, what kind of questions were asked with answers of course, and any other bits of info that you feel would help the members.

There are a lot of unanswered questions, maybe you guys have the answers, straight from the top table.

Lets try to keep this thread on topic, anything not properly on topic will be deleted.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I attended the Liverpool one heard nothing new just seemed to be a room full of nodding clapping robots no real questions about the agreement and all its vagueness, there was a question about PTers doing full time hours but not getting a decent holiday/sick pay but that was mainly brushed under the carpet saying that full timers would want paying for their OT in holiday/sick pay :thumbdown

From my view and opinion :

We have stopped a lot of what Royal Mail wanted.

We have a reasonable way forward on an agreement which could become a good deal if the Government gives their non on the introduction of the CDC scheme.

On Pensions it all rests on us getting the agreement of the Government on CDC , the negoatators are confident but this is what tips the agreement from being a reasonable step forward to a good agreement. In the interim the cash balance scheme will be in place.

On Pay 5% is a reasonable agreement , we would all want more but how many other employees are getting £20.61 pay rise plus a rise in your functional supplement per week ?

There is better words on part timers review in contracts

There will be an independent party coming into review whether the word of this agreement is being deployed and whether bullying and harassment is rife in Royal Mail ?

There is a shorter working week this year in October which will happen.

Part timers will get an additional pay rise in October of 2.665%.

There will be trails on indoor merging there are currently 4 potential different agreed trials which will run for at least 6 months in a few offices , the outcome of which will be subject to further Negotiations and a new agreement sometime in 2019.

There will be trails on Automated Hours Data Capture in Greenford Mail Centre , PRDC , Northwood Delivery Office and one other Delivery Office . Royal Mail had introduced sensors of frames , bag frames etc but due to the agreement it will only record some coming in and out of the building / floor.

We have stopped walk ownership , teamworking.

For my Division the only offices which are impacted by later finishes are 4 day week offices and we have the opportunity before October to see whether we can reduce this by reviewing the Network /17/18, the inward Mail Centre , Area Distribution runs to and from Mail Centre to Delivery Office to see if we can reduce their finishing times.

There is a 2% pay rise next April and an additional hour off the working week next April but this will be subject to new functional agreements which would be subject to negoations and a individual member ballot.

So in conclusion we have stopped a lot of what Royal Mail wanted and have the potential of a good united pension scheme if the Government agrees. It will next be as good as the DB scheme which is closing but we would never have got Royal Mail to pay an extra 800 million per year on pensions.

In my view take what we got and remember we will always have further fights in the future .

Remember we have not lost a minutes Pay .

Is there more detail available on the four agreed trials for 'indoor merging' ? Or is it too toxic and therefore has to be kept under wraps ?

PS Is it just me or does some of the terminology coming from the RM/CWU remind anyone else of the words that often fall out of a certain presidents mouth ?
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Better than what?:

Para 3.3 of the "Job Security, Resourcing and Managing Change -A National Agreement between Royal Mail and Communication Workers’ Union" which I believe
was from July 2012 states:

The level of part timers’ contracted hours will be jointly reviewed locally
on a six monthly basis. Where appropriate, increased contracted hours
will be offered to reflect the hours actually worked and planned.

Para 2.7.7 of the "AGENDA FOR GROWTH, STABILITY AND LONG TERM SUCCESS - A NATIONAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN ROYAL MAIL GROUP
AND THE COMMUNICATION WORKERS’ UNION (Negotiators Agreement)"
states:

The level of part time Employees’ contracted hours will be jointly reviewed locally on a six monthly basis. Where appropriate, increased contracted hours will be offered to reflect the hours actually worked and planned.

Oh and guess what para 8 of the latest proposal "The level of part time Employees contracted hours............"

If it's not happening from the previous agreements what's different this time?
There will be an independent party coming into review whether the word of this agreement is being deployed and whether bullying and harassment is rife in Royal Mail ?
Why hasn't an independent party already been brought in to review whether previous agreements have been adhered to?

Regarding this, I've been informed from an area rep that it is do with performing overtime on your duty - basically going past your finish time roughly every day for 6 months.

If its overtime performed doing other duties like sorting, prepping another walk etc. then this is not connected in upping your contractual hours.

Yes it is rife. Only these lot are in denial because Royal Mail and the union are quite happy to let it continue.
The bullshit they come out with is astounding as evidenced with that comment if it is rife.
The usual saying is there are procedures in place like the grievance and B&H etc etc.
And then when you do complain they go out of their way to brush it under the carpet or indeed to help the bullying to continue.
It's called Corporate Denial and that is one thing that is rife.
.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09

The bullying and harassment procedures are a disgrace.
Bosses ,being allowed to judge if other bosses ,sometimes their friends are guilty of bullying

The pension issue is a complete farce ,with nothing agreed .so how can it be voted on

The pay rise ,was recommended by the go -betweens and as far as I can see .
We will I would imagine have to get a pay rise anyway and the way this is being gift wrapped up to look like we are getting more than we are is fraudulent
Cwu are relying on the carrot grabbers voting on this pension deal on the back of a pay rise that is almost a year behind now

There are other nasty surprises buried in this so called deal .like moving to sickness plan like other businesses,
That would be your first 3 days unpaid ,and remember we are out in all elements
Ihr and evr payments will be changed too

As for the trials on other things like the merging of mail on the street ,that will happen anyway with or without agreement

We have an 89.1 % vote ,let’s not blow it on this s**t deal
I really for a minute did believe we were on ‘the cusp of something really ground breaking ‘

Bottom line is if it’s so good a deal ,let’s see some of the ones recommending it ,put their money where their mouths are and go and work in these conditions,of bullying culture ,bonus culture
Let’s forget about the union release time for once and not just recommend voting yes for your own Sakes !

Rep I know from attending one reported take a leap of faith and if the pension issue isn't resolved through government we will be in dispute again, as with the new national agreement. "Bigger fight potentially to come" he said.
Is there some truth to this Dingo?

WF
The devil is always in the detail.
Remember the " way forward agreement ", I certainly do.
How a Union could sign up to that agreement remains a mystery to me. We were well and truly shafted.
Recall how the flexibility aspect of an agreement that was twisted and abused by many unscrupulous managers to con weaker units. Remember their attempts to bank hours !! , in some places ? You all know their true methods in their quest of " interpretation" and being flexible.
This and other deals have always worked to the benefit of RM, with the varying levels of " interpretation " only adding fuel to the pre arranged Bon fire. RM cherry pick the parts to drive through their own view on written words within agreements.
It has always been the case. The Union at national level cannot keep pace with the evil actions by many managers only too keen to shoot holes in agreements to argue their opinions - bullying and intimidating many OPGs who are ignorant of complex agreements left un supported by a Union nationally and left to unfair treatment at the hands of bully's.
The areas many members thought were solid in their cases, like the PT hours increased due to basically working full time, finding they have been conned. There are other cleverly placed loopholes for RM to exploit and always to the detriment of members.
So be careful what you wish for or expect, there is always a sting in the tail with loosely worded agreements and this one is jam packed with too many ifs and maybes. It is not a rock solid deal by any stretch of the imagination.
As I have said, the main subject of B&H and the constant intimidation - that effects all people daily in delivery- will still go on and even rocket under this agreement. It's time our Union took much more interest in the smaller units who suffer for too many poor agreements in the past. I am not convinced they really know the true impact their agreements have at grass roots level.
