Told to deliver "at our own risk"

Today the snow/ice was pretty bad at my office, yesterday a colleague fell and broke their wrist. Today the DOM was telling us we can go out on delivery, but at our own risk. Any falls, damage to van etc would be our responsibility. So 99% of our office stayed inside and didn't deliver anything. Only 3 people were brave/mad enough to go out to deliver. Have any of you ever been told this before? The company basically saying they won't accept responsibility for any accidents? Also towards the end of the day, around 12/1pm, the DOM told people if they take a bit of mail, either from a walking duty close to the office, or the street they live on, then they can do that and then go home, without having to make up the hours. Which most people did. I stayed twiddling my thumbs till the finish time, and will also be booking my hour and half overtime I did in the morning. Could be the same situation tomorrow

Yeah all pretty standard stuff.
Always makes it easy for us posties just to say to manager "are you telling me I have to go out & deliver" the reply will be no I am not so simple stay indoors & don't go out

I was given 3 options of take annual leave, unpaid leave or clawback hours.

Which includes this...

CWU HQ are receiving numerous reports and enquiries that as a result of the severe weather conditions, Royal Mail Managers are attempting to insist that in cases where our members are being sent home early from work due to unsafe conditions for delivery, collections, road services etc, the Pay & Modernisation Agreement and in particular the flexibility clause within that agreement, is applicable.

There is no provision within the Pay & Modernisation Agreement for the clawback of any time as a result of what is tantamount to an 'act of God' i.e. the severe weather conditions that the UK is currently experiencing.

We have had further reports that some Managers are attempting to have our members take annual leave, make good the time, or even in some cases Special Leave 'C' (unpaid) where they could not attend work through no fault of their own. Once again, our representatives should be clear that this has not been agreed with the Postal Department at CWU HQ.

Any enquiries should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department quoting reference number 60000.

I was under the impression that this was bollox and not agreed, it contradicts the CWU notice above, especially about making time.

As someone who was injured on delivery last week, due to no fault of my own, DO NOT go out in this weather unless the manager puts it in writing that you must. My manager is weaselling out of recording my incident as an accident on delivery. You have been warned.

Caring sharing employer indeed

proves how serious the union looks on this when there's all this
confusion around the country on this. There should be no question of wether safety or profit comes first
no ifs or buts . A one for all statement should be pinned up on union noticeboards in EVERY office in the
country so there is no more confusion about peoples safety.Managers will play office off against office
on this,they have a bonus to protect .
