9 to 5 Duty

A selection of duties are to be implemented in the office, with a start time of 9AM and a finish time of 5PM. This is in order to accomadate two new housing estates.

The manager claims there are other offices that already have these.

That said, does anyone on here have any experience of doing such a long duty?

Last letter should be planned for no later than 3:30

no you need to get your rep on this as last letter is 3.30 . why has he said 9 - 5 ? does this inc indoor prep time ? or just delivery ?

I think there is an assumption that working out on delivery until 5PM would be based on a local agreement, i.e. the postie is wanting/happy to work until that time and management are happy with this.

The exact details remain a little vague, but it is essentially sign in at 9 and go straight out on delivery; finish at 5 with meal relief included.

Sounds like a nightmare. That would be especially awful at Christmas time when it gets dark at 4pm!

Although it's being offered to everyone, I'm yet to hear of anyone who's interested in it.

Bit of a weird one as it will require two OPG's to do it over 5 days and then at least one other person to cover it on their respective day's off. Who covers it when those who sign for it are on annual leave or sick, remains to be seen.

0900 to 1700 is where RM wants the delivery job to end up at if not later still. The current proposal/agreement sets 1630 as the latest delivery time for rurals so if you all let this through we are closer still to 9 to 5 duty times. Make sure you all vote no!!

I know where you're coming from, and agree with your sentiments but these 9 to 5 duties are being offered in my office regardless of the future proposal/agreement.

The local rep seems to be fine with it being offered to people, also.

so they are making a duty 9-5 now which will already be set up tough to achieve, then knowingly adding to it when homes pop up making it impossible within the time frame?
anyone who's been in the job long enough will give this a wide berth, however new starters won't know, then there's covering days off,
knowing RM they'll make it a fixed tuesday off and intend to lapse it every week

and an issue with another recent topic here of meal relief, this sort of duty would have to have a rest half way through so a 40 minute break will become 1hr due to travel back, who stands the 20mins?

Sounds like a hybrid, delivery and collection all on one duty, I do this most weeks, not that bad.

The duty is already comfortably 5 hours long with another 400 houses to be absorbed into it. The 5pm finish may end up being rather conservative.

I'm led to believe the duty is being aimed at someone who wants full-time and/or a new starter who has previously worked in a 9 to 5 job.

If by hybrid you mean undertaking a full round and then doing several collections in the local area afterwards, then it isn't a hybrid. It's a large duty that has only one collection point on it.

Contact your area rep, this should be a massive NO NO, there is no need to f**k around with times just because of increased delivery points.
It's against all agreements as well, wtf is wrong with your rep!
