Light duties after elective surgery

Anyone had any experience of this? Having an elective surgery (cosmetic, nose job, tummy tuck, boob job etc) and having a few weeks annual leave.
Upon return will royal mail authorise light duties?

Would it take as much as a couple of weeks to be fit for work following a cosmetic procedure? I wouldn't have thought that would tend to be the case but I'm prepared to be enlightened.

I guess they'd need to if you had a supporting letter from your GP. It might be that they wouldn't be too happy about it being the result of an elective procedure but I confess I'm not sure where they'd stand on that legally-speaking.

Edit: having had a brief chat with m'learned friend, they're of the opinion that it is a bit of a grey area but given women are far more likely to have cosmetic surgery than men (as a statistical fact), RM would have to be careful not to be indirectly discriminating against you should they not treat it in the same manner as they would a necessary surgery that had had the same kind of impact on your ability to work.

Further edit: unless RM's policy on sick pay and returns to work specifically excludes or makes possible exemption for elective surgery, they would be on very thin ice, especially as you have been reasonable yourself in scheduling holiday as part of your recuperation time.
