Can someone please tell me the job of the union rep because the guy at my work thinks he is the boss
I'm thinking of leaving the union and telling him to F**k off and mind his own business

The local reps vary up and down the country there are some really good ones and there are some that are in it for themselves.Our rep is useless and is only doing it to manipulate the office and revisions to suit his own agenda , the problem is nobody wants to step forward to replace him as most think it's a thankless task.

You do not need to leave the Union in order to tell him to fck off. Just do it if you think he is acting outside of his remit.

it's a thankless task having your ass kicked by Management and then fellow postmen for no extra pay

So go on have a go yourself

He doesn't know any of the rules and he tries to make life harder for you if you don't agree with him
He has even told the manager that staff are useless and they should get rid of them
He will say one thing to benefit himself then change it if it doesn't benefit he'll change it so it does
He will use his seniority to take people of walks and take that walk for the overtime rather then do the walk that really needs doing and will put a positive on the walk who has never don't it before causing them to fail
The maneger tried to get his mate to do a drive and he stepped up and said no! He needs at least 3 to 5 days training
But suggest I do the drive and I've had no training.

Is it not time that units that are disatisfied with the way their rep is acting, that they notify the area representative of their concerns and ask for a meeting with all three parties ( members, union rep, and area rep) in order to first try to obtain an amicable change in behaviour. If this does not have any affect then the membership should ask for the local reps resignation, failing which they will ask for a vote of no confidence.
