Ban low level letterboxes!!

Honestly there's nothing worse than these low level letterboxes !! Especially the really slim ones that you can barely get the Mail through after almost breaking your back bending down (yes even following manual lifting procedure etc) surely they don't just infuriate me??? Maybe I'm just unlucky having a bunch of them on my round....still should be outlawed though :(

Seems to be more around supermac, there was a time when they stopped but now they’ve come back, the thing that gets me is how come the new builds are having them, if we had any balls about us we would refuse to deliver to them useing health and safety the same way the managers do with all there bollocks.

According to this, the issue was first raised in 1958, but the requirement to have a letterbox at a sensible height has never been made law. Although it has been in Ireland!

We have a new build estate & all 108 houses have ground level letterboxes, your back certainty knows when you have done the walk, If you ever question a door sales person they will tell you it weakens the door to have it at waist level

Not quite sure of the exact facts, but I believe these are outlawed on the continent. Remember reading something, somewhere, a while ago that they have to be a certain height above ground level. Pity it doesn't apply here. Easy to nick mail from as well.

Never mind low level ones! What about the tiny ones you can't fit anything in unless you fold it all into a tube and then if there's anything like a thick catalogue , you've no chance. Also the letterboxes that don't want to accept post because they are so narrow . I think it's to stop any breezes coming through (and post). Plus those really stiff ones that you have to push with one hand and post with the other. I don't know why uk doesn't get the standard post box on the gate of outside of door like in Australia or US. Especially with the rise in parcels people order. The box could be a reasonable size to accept these.
Also if people want their post they should allow easier access. Sick of trying to squeeze between a car and a door or fiddle with gates locks and then fiddle to lock them again. Aargh but other than that I enjoy my job

Isn't law in Ireland, that a postbox must me a certain height?

You would of thought that a caring union would be on this and fighting for our health.

With the number of small packets we're getting there should be a minimum size too

Some letterboxes seem to be ridiculously overly complicated for what is supposed to be a hole in a door, they have numerous lips inside them that you have to try and manipulate the mail past to successfully get it through.

And don't even get me started on the stupid brushes inside them to stop drafts... some of them are so thick and stiff they're probably bullet proof never mind draft proof!

Had a complaint last week, apparently I folded his magazine the wrong way. 1. There wasn't a do not fold on the envelope, 2. There was a free gift or something inside that stopped be rolling it up and 3. He should have a letter box the right size for his magazine in the first place!
