Channel 4's 'Hunted' show.

OK, first of all I've had a cursory look for this subject and haven't seen one, so if there is one please point me in the right direction and delete this topic or move my post please!

One of my favourite shows, basically an amateur 'escape and evasion' series where 9 people, in pairs or individually try and hide from pursuers for 28 days, usually caught through their own stupidity or addiction to social media and cashless payments. The powers of the state for phone tracking, ANPR and social media entrapment are used to try and reel them in to be apprehended by 'snatch squads' and thus leave the series and their chance of making the final rendezvous for a share of 100k.

I mention this because (as of now still at large) one competitor is a postman from Kent, teamed with his father, and very nearly caught at the start by triangulation via using his mobile phone.

Interesting he got time off to compete (or saved his leave) and he should have an advantage unlike Mr. Crybaby (the ex-Police firearms officer) who blubbered for his missus from day one and thankfully was caught. So his advantages could include:

Experience of hiding from PDA/mobile device tracking by turning it off at the appropriate times.
Hiding in Greggs or a bookmakers out of view of thermal imaging drones (yes they use them too!)
Disappearing into the ether from 13:00 each day (if he's had DOM support training)
Disguised in tracksuit bottoms, white trainers and a hoodie (Standard issue London and SE RM kit)
Confidence to knock on strangers' doors to seek help.
Trained in evading dogs.
Hiding when called up to sorting.

The programme is aired IIRC 21:00 each Thursday, I like the lad who is on the autistic spectrum hence possibly why he's paired with his father and like many similar people is quite intelligent and thoughtful when faced with obstacles.

There are disclaimers all over it telling viewers that access to CCTV, phone tracking and ANPR access are all "replicated".
How do they find them? I would imagine the camera man following them is probably wearing a big arrow on his head.

Quite agree Fish. I have watched this and can,t believe the stupidity. The girls thumbing a lift on a motorway The wife of the ex cop taking a switched on mobile to a rendezvous with her husband.

Find yourself a rabbit hole absolutely miles from anywhere, in the remotest parts of the country and stay put. Switch off phone, live off land and emerge when the time is right.

I don't really know the rules of the show but there are places I go in Scotland on my holidays where there's no phone signal or terrestrial TV signal, the locals would tell nobody your business. You could live up there for the rest of your life and nobody would find you.

Alternatively go round to one of your mates ( the dodgy one with the cop proof door ) and doss on his sofa for 4 weeks. Job done. As the real intelligence services/police/bad guys will tell you it's the running that gets you caught, not the hiding.

Those whom are still free are given 2 days' notice near the end and have to rendezvous at an airfield, ferry dock or similar (which is a final entrapment bottleneck)whereby they're whisked off for a luxury break and paid their lolly. The Hunters will visit your friends and family and plant programmes in your PC, copy phone numbers etc. Their most effective tactic is often bribery - they'll track you down to a helper/friends locale and offer 2-300 quid for them to grass them up if they missed you, and those rewards are offered on social media. So literally you have to not even see people let alone get help from them and that's harder to do for a month than it sounds. Don't forget they have little money so can't hide in a Travelodge or B&B and often need to do casual work along the way to keep eating as they are only provided with 500 quid IIRC which is in a bank account and naturally immediately alerts them to your location if tempted.

As for 'hiding in a rabbit hole' that's not as easy as it sounds. I know a couple of blokes who had to do this in Armagh back in the '80's on obs. for PIRA activity and they were literally going crazy with boredom, cramp and often frozen cold after just 48 hours. OK, in this instance you could show yourself, grab some sun and take a walk at night to stretch your legs unlike those poor buggers, but it's the mental frailties that often tell in the end.

That sounds like my rural delivery, no signal most of the day...........we think the new posties that we thought had quit after only a few weeks may actually still be out delivering somewhere and unable to phone home for directions to get them back to the office!

How do you work that out. He will get £25k about 1.25 years salary. At his age you would probably need at least £500k if not more.

Because of his autism/aspergers and newly found confidence. He could apply to work in other jobs and get out there.

I hope he does and finds himself a perfect job.
