Delivering to flats
What is the procedure when delivering to flats that have the letterboxes at the bottom? Do we have to take parcels up to the flat or do we buzz the appropriate flat then wait for the customer to come down to us?

Delivering mail to multi-occupied addresses
If you live in or occupy business premises in a location where our delivery staff only have access to a single point where they deliver mail for multiple residences or premises within that location, this is considered to be a multi-occupied address.
Where delivery arrangements already exist where a facility is provided such as a central point for the delivery of mail or the provision of external lockable letter boxes at a building/site, these will be deemed as the delivery point for the individual addresses. In such circumstances, Royal Mail will not perform deliveries to individual residences or business premises, if requested by individual customers, even if the delivery standard criteria below are met.
If you have an item that needs to be signed for this will be delivered to the door to obtain the signature rather than left at the central point.
Residential Locations
Where separate facilities are provided for each residence, we will only deliver mail directly to your residence or to a centrally located box corresponding to your residence, provided all of the following conditions are met:
1.Your residence is a self-contained property and is separately and individually rated by the local authority for council tax purposes.
2.Your residence can be clearly identified (with a number, letter or name) and has its own letterbox (or a secure lockable receptacle that clearly corresponds to the residence)
3.Our delivery staff can gain safe and easy access to perform delivery to your residence.
4.The residence is a permanent structure.
Should any of the conditions above not be met then we are not obliged to deliver mail directly to your residence. Instead, we will deliver your mail to a suitable central reception point or letterbox for your location, together with other mail for this location.

You've also got to factor in the time that it would require leaving the trolley unattended for, if it would take too-long (max times allowed are probably mentioned in a thread somewhere) then you'll just have to 739 the itemTrueBlueTerrier wrote:https://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communi ... =1&t=74285

Packets/Parcels ect you should go to each door and knock...surely.
Downstairs in the lobby which is usually open to all is not a safe place...again surely.
The link in the linked thread (Delivering mail to multi-occupied addresses) is not there anymore since RM upgraded their website and doesn't mention packets/parcels or whatever they are called today.
EDIT: Found the new link https://business.help.royalmail.com/app ... -addresses" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Again, nothing there about dumping stuff in the lobby.
Stuff gets nicked it's the posties arse...surely.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Delivering to flats
Pretty simple.
If the flat has it's own number it has to be delivered to the door.
If that door is on the fourth floor and you have a trolley, see a manager and let him make the decision if you go up the stairs or not.
Cover your arse.

Press the buzzer and say "I've got a parcel, I'll be doing the mailboxes". Slowly do the boxes and 9 times out of 10 they come down for it

Some of you are in the wrong job. We work for a delivery company so we deliver not make excuses not to deliver. If your Nan lived on the fourth floor would you expect her to go down and up four floors to collect her mail how about a mum should she leave her baby/toddler alone or the man with a broken leg do they nor get their packets shame on any postie who thinks thats right.

This is about security of other mail while you're going up and down 4 flights and messing around with getting signature etc, maybe 2 or 3 minutes.
By which time some other person's nan might have had her mail nicked.

Suppose it depends on the equipment used. If you use a bag, then climb the stairs, if you use a trolley, factor this into the delivery and go to this complex without the trolley. Hardly rocket science.Dexydog wrote:This is about security of other mail while you're going up and down 4 flights and messing around with getting signature etc, maybe 2 or 3 minutes.

5kg bag weight for flats did you or your managers know that what if the flats were not numbered ? as for trolleys hardly ideal for flats even asking someone to come down for it without id is a big risk!bmccoll wrote:Suppose it depends on the equipment used. Its a bit ambiguous to say the least!
If the flat's own door has no number on it you don't have to traipse up the stairs?

No luck involved the van comes with the job, no van = HTC mail locked inside and padlocked to a lamppost. I wonder if other delivery firms refuse to go upstairs.Dexydog wrote:Lucky you having a van to park outside.
