Clubbing together to raise charity cash has brought colleagues at Malton collection hub closer together - and sickness levels to a record low.
Since August, the hub has recorded just 14 sick days and colleagues have raised hundreds for good causes.
Paul King, collection hub manager for Malton hub, said support available through the company has helped dramatically reduce sickness, and the improved teamwork has boosted performance.
‘I don’t think I went through a week last year without sickness in one form or another,’ he said. ‘Through colleague understanding of the sickness process and support that’s available, we now haven’t had any long-term sickness in the unit.
‘Support from the business has helped people back on track and all the team are aware of the impact on each other when one person goes off sick.’
Fundraisers including ‘wear purple to work’, ‘cupcake day’ and ‘Christmas jumper day’, have also helped boost morale among the 34-strong unit.
Paul says the events have ‘bonded’ the team and that colleagues ‘go the extra mile’ in their work and for each other.
He said: ‘There’s a massive camaraderie between them and it’s a really good atmosphere within the unit. That’s purely down to colleagues supporting each other.’
Pam Wright, area collections manager at Leeds mail centre, also praised the team.
‘They pull together to get the job done when things go wrong,’ she said. ‘They often suffer with challenging weather but support each other and that is reflected in the performance in the unit.’
