LGV Network Question

Post by WOODY67 »

Hi All,
RE:
16.3.3 Joint Activity to Deliver the 1st Hour of the SSW

For Network LGV Drivers both parties confirm that the Deployment of the Network
Reviews will meet the efficiency requirements to deliver the first hour reduction in the
Working Week.

In addition the Professional Drivers based at the agreed Automated Hours Data Capture
(AHDC) sites will participate in the trial activity as applicable. Both parties recognise that
current Working Time arrangements for Logistics LGV Drivers vary significantly from the
Royal Mail OPG Grade.
The manner in which the SSW will be deployed for Network LGV Driver Grade will be the
Subject of detailed discussions to ensure that the reduction or equivalent benefit is
Delivered in full. These discussions will consider a full range of options which may include
A review of non-driving time and current Meal Relief provision and the restoration of
Payment for Meal Reliefs on a phased basis in accordance with the flight path to the 35
Hour Working Week for OPG Grades.
A final agreed position will be concluded and
communicated by September 2018 including any proposed changes which will be
incorporated in the Network 2019 by April 2019.

Could someone clarify the Red bit for me please?

I think it refers to either the amounts of “ as directed” written in to a 318 to co ordinate dispatch times or if you do days on customer collections maybe the amount of ad hoc needed bridge the gaps between collections to give the duty it’s full content? That would be my guess ........ but who knows for sure?

I think it means that because you do not get paid meal breaks like the rest of us instead of losing an hour off your working week, you will receive an extra payment which will be rationalized as a re-introduction of your paid meal relief, eg year one 12 minutes of your meal relief will be paid etc......increasing each time the rest of us get an hour off our scheduled contract times.

Just my interpretation so could be way off the mark

Thanks for the replies guys
I figured similarly myself. I think that it'll have to be a best guess when I vote.

trying to get this round my head, lgv driver works a 36.15 week but have 3.45 hrs unpaid m/r built into duty, total 40 hrs net.current
delivery/ m/c o.p.g. works 39 hr week with 3.20 paid m/r making a working week of 35.40.current

even if they started to pay m/r back it would still not shorting the working week for lgv drivers.

Correct Oggie

Which is why we will probably end up again with a reduced pay rise instead, just like the last time when an hour was removed from OPG WW equating to 2.5% and we received 2%. Well done CWU :Applause

The plan is to not reduce your hours to 35 but to pay you your meal breaks

Sorry number one but that is still to be decided upon (result due in September). Maybe a reduction in the working week or 12 mins paid meal relief or maybe like the last time (which suited them before) a percentage pay rise. I do wonder what hoops I'll have to get the lorry through before October to get the rise.

Also what do you do with the drivers who have 1hour 30 minutes a day meal reliefs. A lot of drivers also do 6 day weeks and have an hour a day meal relief. I.e. 42.15 hour weeks

What’s the pay like in HGV with Royal Mail? I’ve spent 18 years on delivery and fancy a change. Already have my class 1. I’m currently earning £30-£35k on Delivery with overtime. I’m getting older now so have to think of my knees.

if that was the case, it would mean once the flightpath is completed a lgv driver would still be doing a 40hr week with paid m/r, i don't think that is the plan. paying m/r does not shorten the working week.
